Although just that touch outside of the Leeds post code this place is well worth the trip. My Mum had come up for one of her many jolly jaunts with me in Leeds and we decided to do something a little different. I remembered all those trips to Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves as a kid down in the South West and so had a little browse for something similar in the Leeds area. These guys came up and we decided to make the drive. It wasn’t too lengthy a journey and, with a stop off to look at some cows and the gorgeous view, we made it in one try — google maps did us proud despite the location feeling like it was literally in the middle of nowhere! We went in and paid for our tour, it was crazy cheap — something like £5 or so — and decided to go down into the caves before checking out the loaded gift shop. As we were visiting outside of peak times we didn’t have a guide and this was a pretty scary prospect! For a start the steps leading down were so incredibly steep and ominous — it was *awesome*! The caves themselves only took around twenty to thirty minutes to walk around, although I’m guessing a bit longer if you have the guide explaining the history. Fortunately for me there were no major squeezy bits although a few of the low ceiling areas had me a little scared — but I’m probably more jittery than the average visitor. There were some beautiful areas and it was really amazing to go into the depths. The gift shop was packed with exciting bits and memorabilia, including hoards of gemstones, salt lamps and more. Heaven for a magpie like me! We treated ourselves to a lovely couple of coffees and freshly made cakes and then made our way home. What a lovely day out!
