A pretty good burger joint. Well cooked burgers with flavoursome toppings with a nice range of sides including combos of loaded fries. However, the vibe is a bit hit or miss. It works within the depths of the restaurant with a great music playlist going on in the background but near the entrance someone has decided to put a TV there which plays general sports.(Visit — 09/11/2014 Dinner)

It’s been a year since my last review, so I though it was time for an update! I’ve been a few times in the past year, but not so much recently, as the last time we went, the burgers were just awful. I’m not sure if they changed their meat supplier or if it was just a funny batch but it tasted really game-y and strong and just not good. We didn’t get sick or anything, but didn’t feel good afterwards either. Even though I complained, the waitress just shrugged, didn’t offer to get me something else, or even take a small amount off the bill. Just shrugged. So after a few months break, we went and just avoided the burgers. I had my the pulled pork, one of my favourites from their, and my companion had a buffalo chicken burger. Both of us really enjoyed our food. For sides we shared some sweet potato fries and the mac & cheese bites. The mac & cheese bites were improved compared to previous visits, and were my favourite thing of the meal. The sweet potato fries were meant to come in some special fry salt but they didn’t. Again though, the problem here is the service. Our waitress was nice but new, and never collected the menus from our table. She never asked how our food was, or came to see if we needed more drinks. One of the sauces on the table we wanted to use was essentially empty and even though I checked a few nearby tables for more, I couldn’t find any — and since the waitress didn’t check on us, I couldn’t ask. Plus the really loud techno music at 2pm on a weekday made it hard to speak, even if we had been given the chance. We waited a good 10 minutes after eating with our dirty plates on the table, and when they were finally cleared we asked for the bill, which came quickly. Annoyingly though, they put on a 12.5% service charge — way too high for a burger place in zone 6. Since we don’t have many places like this in the area, I imagine we’ll still come back when we fancy this kind of food and can’t get into town(yesterday was the tube strike!) or can’t be bothered to travel in. But it’s really not a destination in itself.

I love burgers, like really really LOVE burgers and luckily for me, there’s an outstanding burger bar situated just a ten minute drive away from my flat. Chuck, in Hatch End, is nestled amongst a high street full of restaurants and has served as the perfect hangover cure to me on many a Sunday afternoon. I’m a creature of habit so once I find something I like, I tend to stick to it over and over again. CHUCK however broke my monotony and I found myself sampling something different every time I went — first there was the devil burger, followed by the bacon and cheese and then on to the dolly… this was all until I met the piggy burger. this little piggy is aptly named as it’s a 28 day aged hunk of beef topped with pulled pork and coleslaw sandwiched between a soft brioche bun… I dream of this burger sometimes. It’s a thing of beauty. If i were to order another burger in there I think I’d feel guilty… and that’s the thing about the piggy I love. She makes you feel dirty. My hangovers pack a punch so I don’t stop there to appease them, I need fries and CHUCK fries are legendary in their own right. The chilli cheese are piled high with fire bomb chilli and melted cheese but do your self a favour and go for the bacon and cheese loaded fries, honestly you can thank me later. Aside from the food, one of the things I love is the way the food is served, everything comes on little metal trays with your cutlery in a pot on the table. The walls are also adorned with interesting bits for you to look at whilst you dribble waiting for your food… Now if like me, you like to indulge a little hair of the dog, let me talk to you about the Pornstar Martini’s. These passionfruit beauties are my absolute favourite drink and CHUCK does the best pornstar I’ve had — I’d go as far as to say they are better than STK and that’s a bold statement. Trust me, if you’re going book a cab and have a couple of these with your food — you won’t regret it.

It’s ok, nothing special about this place. The dolly lamb burger was pleasant, didn’t finish it all as it was dry, lacking seasoning and sauce. The wings however are better, the sauce on it is nice and fiery, think they should use the same sauce on the burgers! Cocktails are mediocre. They claim to be an American place, but I just dont see that. And very loud music which is very off putting.

We just had our second visit to this excellent establishment. Have tried the devilled burger and lately the chilli cheese burger and both were excellent. My daughter has had the bacon cheese burger and the ribs and said the same. We had the loaded fries on our first visit that were very nice but extremely filling. So stuck with normal fries this time and the portion size was more than adequate. They even serve Camden Hell’s lager which is one of my favourite beers. Great, friendly service although noticeably slower when the place is busy. On our first visit we arrived at 8pm on a Friday and had a 1 hour wait for a table. This time we arrived at 6.15pm and were seated straight away. Love this place and will definitely keep returning, will have to hit the gym a bit harder in future to compensate.

This marked the third time my wife and I have dined at Chuck — we’re very pleased it’s managed to make it’s mark in Hatch End and survive! They do very good burgers, but we didn’t come along for those this time, instead I opted for the buffalo chicken fillet and she had the pulled pork. She had wanted the pulled pork sliders, but they were out of the buns, so she had the normal sized version instead. We normally opt for the mucky fries with cheese and spring onions — those are pretty good, but this time we decided to try the fried pickles and the mac and cheese bites. Now the bites were good… but the pickles. Oh My God. They’re the best thing I’ve ever eaten in a burger joint — even better than Byron’s courgette fries. They’re tangy and crispy, and they’re not just pickles but there’s some jalapeños in there as well so you get a burst of heat every few bites. So, so good. The pulled pork was a little well done, but it was tasty. The buffalo chicken had a good balance of heat against the cooling sauce and I’d order it again. The one downside was the service — I want to say straight away that it wasn’t the waiters fault. There was only one of him, and the music was so loud that there was no way he could hear the chefs calling out for service. The bar staff also seem to have the easiest job in the world as while the single waiter runs around taking orders, delivering orders and even cleaning tables — I spotted one of the two bar staff having a bit of a sit down. Another one presumably went to the bathroom and on the way back a table asked him to take an order. He ignored them and waved the waiter over. To his credit, the waiter was a nice guy and we left a tip, but I can’t give a full five stars because of the lazy bar staff.

One of the best burgers i’ve ever had. The patty was juicy and the lettuce, onion, pickle were coated with just a right amount of sauce which was giving a kick to the whole burger experience. Fries were obviously home made and tasted different from other burger restaurant. I ordered nachos with salsa for a starter and the salsa was home made! This was another great thing about this restaurant. I’ve been to quite a few Mexican/American restaurants in London and many places serve disgusting out of jar salsa. Only thing I hoped for was Dr. Pepper to be on the menu since it’s an American themed restaurant. They also need to change the opening hour stated on the front glass as I thought it was closed until I tried to open the door and ask. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a nice juicy burger.
