One of the most sophisticated florists in Hove is Florian. A few minutes walk from Igigi café and homeware, it’s the perfect place to pick up some flowers for yourself or a loved one. As it’s spring, there are currently big bunches of daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, narcissi and freesia outside the shop. If you’re wanting to make an impression however, I’d opt for one of their elegant, hand-tied bouquets. Prices range from £20 to £50 for more expensive flowers like long-stemmed roses and birds of paradise. They also sell cute bulbs in pots, glass and ceramic vases and large indoor and outdoor plants.

Say it with flowers. From an opulent orange and red hand-toed bouquet to a single red rose, nothing says ‘you’re the one’ more eloquently. Florian in Hove is a beautiful shop with a diversity of arrangements. Show your passion with 24 fragrant long stemmed large headed Naomi red roses wrapped with palm leaves, dracaena and willow; declare your ardour through a luxury arrangement hand-tied in a black glass vase, featuring fresh lime greens, rich warm reds, and finished with five scented large headed red roses; plight your troth scented large-headed red roses and anthuriums. And underline the message with champagne and truffles. You know you want to.

Florian is a lovely flower shop on Western Road, with a large selection of elegantly displayed flowers and plants. Each item is artistically put together in a vase, pot or planter(some of which were sculpted by local artists) and labelled with interesting and relevant information handwritten on cardstock. Everything is quite pricey, but looks well worth it. The cheapest items — single bulbs in small pots — were around £8, and larger glass vases filled with wonderfully arranged flowers went up to £90. Other gift ideas were also available — candles, statues and figurines and separately sold planters or vases. These also seemed high quality and were a bit more expensive than most florists. Well, I can‘t see myself buying anything from Florina for awhile — my budget limits me to the cheaper end florists — but one day when I’ll come here on a horticultural shopping spree.

Florian The Florist is undoubtedly a first-rate florist. As somewhere that’s so attractive to look at it often draws in people simply for a nose around. As they offer a delivery service to anyone in within approximately 30 miles, most of their business obviously comes from functions and corporate events. Basically, you aren’t going to find a cheap bouquet for the wife on your way home from work. It’s the kind of place you’ll have to place an order with: pre-empting your upcoming anniversary. It may be expensive but if you want some floral beauty it’s definitely worth it.

This florist is really too expensive for me– you need at least ten pounds to walk out with even the smallest of bouquets and really more like thirty or forty pounds for anything worthy of the name bouquet. To be fair they do have affordable pot plants– some really beautiful ornamental cabbages for around £3. So I can’t really afford it but I love to go in and admire! Florian’s always has the most incredible window displays– I tried to capture the Autumn display with the full size scarecrow in my picture. The design inside is brilliant for showing of the blooms– they have all the stem flowers in tall clear vases so that they look very grand yet simple. The flowers really have center stage.
