October ’14, I purchased a special offer Tastecard for £1 for three months. Through that period, I received emails from Tastecard asking whether I wanted to buy a further year’s membership for £29.99. I didn’t respond as I hadn’t even used the three month Tastecard: I had been unemployed for some time and hadn’t been able to afford to do so. To my horror, last week Paypal informed me that Tastecard had taken £29.99 from my bank account. I called Tastecard and explained that I had not used the initial £1 card, did not want a year’s membership, could not afford a year’s membership at that level of cost, would result in being overdrawn in my account which inturn would lead to bank charges as I did not have an agreed overdraft facility, that I had children to feed, even shared that my weekly income is just £50.46 and to take £29.99 is more than half. The Customer Relations staff, a manager and even the Managing Director, Matt Turner, had absolutely no interest in my financial issues. Even though my card did not expire until 31st January 2015 and it was the 28th January 2015, I was told by all that I had to inform Tastecard by the 27th January 2015 if I wanted to cancel. Unfortunately I hadn’t read the small print. A word of warning to everyone. Tastecard are BYFAR the most uncaring organisation I have EVER had the displeasure to have to deal with, where it seems profit triumphs over humanity.
