I wish I could give Mr Chu’s a better rating. if it were based purely on the food and how reasonable the prices are then this restaurant would get a 5 star rating. unfortunately the service lets Mr Chu’s down. every time we asked the waiter for anything(water, forks, more drinks) they’d turn away before we got to finish our request! it was really strange and meant we had to make multiple requests.

Went to Mr Chus on a Sunday lunch and couldn’t believe how quiet it was! We chose the lunchtime menu which was available even on a weekend. It was good value considering that duck is included in the price. Usually you say extra for the duck course in some restaurants. The only downside was you got exactly what was on the menu, you didn’t get to choose your main course from a selection. So if nobody liked the mixed Chinese seasonal veg, you couldn’t change it for anything else Overall though the food was nice, hot and the service was good. And if you have a tastecard you can get 50% off, not including the set menus

I thought a bit of Chinese might be nice on a lazy Sunday afternoon… The fact that only three tables were occupied should have been a warning. In short… Poorly trained and disinterested staff, very unauthentic Chinese dishes, and the cheek on payment to expect me to leave a tip! Very disappointing overall.

They do not take swipe credit cards which many business travelers need to use. Therefore you will have to pay cash unless you have a British card. Otherwise the food, service and atmosphere are very nice. During the day you have a nice view of the river.

One of our favourite places. Food is always near perfect, great wine selection AND they have a Chinese draught lager(Xing hao, but i may have spelt that wrong). Staff are mostly pretty good and helpful, owners Jimmy and his dad Jack especially nice and friendly. Easy to park, great views, and they LIKE people here. That makes a great welcome and good restaurant, just as much as the food. And they have real Chinese tea as well. Top marks — and has been for many years.

I love the food, and I love how the place is set out, its very cosy. The setting by the river is nice and the atmosphere is good. I have found the staff to be very helpful at times. The food is good and the portions are very generous! People seem to be complaining about the hygeine? But i haven’t noticed anything myself, I have never gotten ill from eating here! It is a bit pricey thought so its a good place to eat as a treat.

After reading the below reviews, I’m starting to wonder if people are going to a different restaurant to me. I’ve been going to Mr. Chu’s since it first opened, with a variety of people from friends, family to clients and not once have I heard of a complain of illness. I tavel alot and I’m not going to deny it, I’m Chinese(food) addict — I’ve also tried the true traditional cuisine while living in South East Asia for 6 months and I can safely say that Mr. Chu’s is the UK’s #1 for Chinese food. So, before reading the other negative comments, please remember this; people like to moan, but rarely do people take the time out to comment on praise.

well, i must disagree with all the people below saying it is not nice food, I have been going here for many years, Its my familys favorite chinese resteraunt and we always come here for special occations, the food has always been lovely, the staff are also really nice. If there was any problem in the past, as suggested below, now in 2010 they have definately been resolved, It is in a great situation on the river, will lovely views, In fact we like it so much that i am getting married here in august! so i would highly recommend it!

This is on here twice — so I’m going to add this to each one DONOTEATHERE!!! This place has been fined £12k for poor hygiene and a range of other offences. They were given 6 months or so to bring the place up to code but failed miserably. From the Hull Daily Mail: Offences include risking cross contamination, using worn out chopping boards and storing raw meat and poultry next to cooked rice. The report also revealed an electric fly-killer had been placed above a work surface where uncovered food was left, posing a risk of insects being ejected on to the food. I have eaten here before, when it first opened it was great, very authentic with gret atmosphere and service but it started going down hill quite rapidly. The food became the usual naff Chinese fare — bright pink, syrupy sauces standing in for Sweet and Sour. Greasy, tasteless, fried food cooked in oil that tastes weeks old. Salt and MSG laden dishes. Pefunctory, inept service. It’s in a nice location though!

This chinese has a great location for a view of the humber, however, it is about 5 miles outside Hull and you would need a taxi to Hull if you were making a night out with this as your eats stop. Very spacious restaurant and I have always found the food to be very tasty. Service was perfect and the variety was good. I would certainly return.

This is reputed to be one of the biggest Chinese resaurants in England and also a haunt of John Prescott MP, but don’t be put off too much. The location on the side of the river Humber is ideal however when its not very full the atmosphere suffers as does the temperature despite the portable electric heaters. The food is typical chinese complete with the usual Banquet A, B, C, or D. C & D being available for a minimum of 4 an extra dish if 5 or more eating(if you understand where i am coming from). It would be nice if we could find a chinese in the area that did something different. Oh never mind I prefer Thai now anyway good for a night out with a group.
