The Old Bridge Hotel

Tea. Scones. Squishy cushions. Discrete assignations. A perfect place to catch up. Oh and the ladies offers splendid hand cream. Lovely.

This evening my husband and I went to The Old Bridge for dinner, we were hoping for a nice meal but sadly were underwhelmed. I was actually planning on just chucking up this evenings meal as a loss but the waiter who brought us our check helped to change my mind. For our starters we ordered the spicy potato wedges with aioli, the wedges could easily be recreated at home and the aioli was nothing special; we also ordered the terrine with toasted brioche which was nice but not better than what could be found at local pubs. For our mains my husband ordered a burger and I decided to get the fillet of beef Wellington, my husband said his burger was nothing special and my Wellington was another story. The beef fillet in the pastry was cooked well and the flavor of the mushroom mixture was tasty however the pastry itself was terrible, it was not buttery or flaky, it was terribly soggy and disappointing. The garlic mash was stiff, dry and had no flavor that might even resemble garlic. The creamed cabbage that came with the dish was truly forgettable. I’m not sure if they were just having an off night but considering the reviews I had high hopes for dinner but was sadly disappointed. When my husband went to pay, the waiter asked how the meal was and he honestly told him that I was not a fan of the Wellington, then the waiter proceeded to tell my husband, «Well it’s an acquired taste.», how rude. I was extremely appalled at the flippant remark of the waiter, its not what I would have expected from this establishment. Based off of tonight’s meal I would have given this place one star but we have been here before for tea and scones and that was actually pretty nice, I hope they can take constructive criticism better in the future without feeling the need to insult their customers.

The Old Bridge Hotel is a grand old house, covered in ivy, meaning you can’t miss it. It’s also on a busy junction into Huntingdon, so that might also help you find it…
The wine shop is fairly new, with a shiny wine ‘jukebox’ in the middle, meaning you can try their selection of whites and reds before purchasing, either by the bottle or case. There’s plenty of choice from around the globe, and some amazing price tags if you want to gasp at how much people will actually pay for their wine!
We sat ourselves in the corner of the afternoon tea-​type area, bringing the average age down by at least 30 years, and ordered tea for two. It took a long time to arrive, which prompted an apology from the waiter, but it took a while for even that to emerge. No real reason for the delay — only two other tables were occupied, both of which seemed to be experiencing the same delay, and most individuals seemed to be receiving the wrong order.
Cakes looked delicious, displayed next to us, but the biscuits served with the tea could have easily knocked out a few teeth (especially considering the average age of their clientele!)

The Old Bridge Hotel is a lovely place to meet friends for a drink (alcohol or tea!) I remember avoiding this place when I was a poor student, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover it isn’t too pricey (it’s not super cheap, but it’s not as expensive as mediocre establishments in London!)
I’ve met up with friends in the comfy seats by the bar… and once we ended up taking up almost all the non-​restaurant area when old school friends met here for tea and cakes. The scones are HUGE! Definitely order them and share as it’s just not possible to finish one if you count them as a snack. I ordered a steak sandwich, mainly because my friend’s boyfriend told me he is unable to visit here without ordering this sandwich as it is just so good. It was lovely… but left me happily stuffed and unable to contemplate ordering a giant scone.
* As well as the relaxing bar there is also a wine shop including plenty of wines that you can pay to taste. It is the perfect place to grab a bottle of decent wine before you head home (or on to a house party…)

Lovely individual hotel. Each bedroom is different and has its own character.
Very comfortable accommodation. Friendly and personalble staff. All the frills are offered, newspapers, tea and coffee in the morning.
Food is GREAT. Also did a wine tasting in the cellar shop. That was excellent. Can be serious, or fun. Great atmosphere, cosy lit fires.

Still the best place for miles and miles around but very over priced. It was a very quiet Tuesday night with no meal offers on.
I had a generous bowl of pasta with crab & chili which was fine but not fantastic and the other diner had some small dish of something but was still pricey. We both had a dessert which was over £8 each, — So we thought these are london prices! Our total bill was £80 for two courses, coffees, one glass of wine each and two soft drinks each.
They need to look at bringing their prices down again!
We used to eat here around once a month but now since the prices were hiked up, it can only be once a year.

When we first arrived in the UK, our sponsor and his family insisted we go out to dinner at a place of their choosing. Wow. We weren’t expecting this. The Old Bridge Hotel is stunning! Covered in ivy and definitely something I would’ve thought of if someone were to ask me about Britain. The food was really good — and at the time I was younger and one might have figured I wouldn’t have appreciated what they had to offer but I did. The staff was helpful in suggestions and manners were top notch! Definitely memorable.

I never stayed at this hotel. But I love their restaurant, Terrace Restaurant. I had to book this place in advance. Food can be described as modern British cuisine. The menu varies, so hard to say what I would recommend. My recent favorite is the char-​grilled Aberdeenshire steak with flat mushroom, hand-​cut chips, green beans and garlic butter.
The servers are really great. This is one of my favorite places to dine in Cambridge.

Formerly the flagship of the Huntsbridge Group (the others were the equally lovely Three Horsehoes in Madlingley, the Pheasant at Keyston and the Falcon at Fotheringay) and now the sole restaurant of founder and CEO John Hoskins MW, the Old Bridge is set in an idyllic, ivy-​clad C18th building.
The style inside is a mixture of old-​school British (think cosy leather chairs, open fireplaces) with a touch of modern luxury (attentive, but not stuffy, service).
The food here is excellent, but not cheap, and the wine list is what you would expect from a Master of Wine.
They also hold regular wine education evenings (usually with food), special food and wine events (often matching wines to each course) and but best value is the recently introduced a very good value enomatic tasting experience — £7.50 for any 8 wines or £10 for 12 wines — if you can find someone prepared to drive you home afterwards.

Situated just off the Huntingdon ring road, covered in Ivy the Bridge Hotel is a beautiful hotel and restaurant. They have recently opened a wine shop but I’ve yet to see anyone in it. Thats certainly not true for the restaurant which is incredibly popular — so much so I had to put down a £10 deposit per person just to reserve places in their restaurant the week before Christmas.
The rooms are individual and boutique style. Nice extra like cleaning shoes left outside your room are appreciated extras.
Breakfast is either on a tray or downstairs.
All the ‘goodies’ in the bathroom are molton brown — with a fluffy bath robe to relax in.
The only down side is that I feel they have lost their warmth recently. Its a shame because its the warm friendly staff that make it such a pleasure to come back to

Lovely hotel in the heart of this pleasant town. It is right on the high street, with lots of parking nearby. The rooms are bigger than i was expecting, and the staff were really very courtious and helpful. I also thought the breakfast that was provided was lovely and of sufficient quantity and quality. Not a top top quality hotel but it certainly met our needs at a reasonable price.

The restaurant is good if you fancy a posh place to eat — bit expensive but great food.
They have function rooms.

Lovely old hotel with much friendly staff. Great location for wedding receptions. Rooms all individual which is lovely, not cheap but a lovely place. Good food and lovely scones with fresh cream for afternoon tea. Lots of home made food.
Quiet with nice gardens overlooking the river.
Well worth a visit even just for afternoon tea.
