Fat Face

I know that there are some fashionable and high priced shops that I like, and I often have no excuse for them either, but this place really gets my goat. I understand that it is almost in its element here in Ilkley, a high end clientele reside here, but that’s not really enough for me to forgive them trying to charge over £20 for a belt which looks frankly, used and tatty. (I noticed that one a while ago …)
I guess my main annoyance with Fat Face is that their product really doesn’t strike me as anything original or special, and yet they can smack a silly logo, with a silly name, which looks like the Fat Willy’s surfing brand, on their shop front and sell pretty casual clothing for quite a high price.
It’s outdoorsy, it’s casual chic, it’s rustic and it’s expensive. Perhaps it’s just completely not my style. I wouldn’t suggest you purchase anything within with the intent to use it for heavy duty outdoors activity, despite the image, since it’s a little too pricey to ruin and it’s really more of a fashion choice than a sensible hiking choice as such.

Fat Face is a fashion shop set in a small arcade in Ilkley. The clothes in Fat Face are primarily stylish clothing for an active outdoor life. This includes items like hats, gloves, scarves, coats, jewellery, trousers and footwear. Maybe a little on the pricey side, but everything is well made and that little bit different from the ordinary. My wife purchased a coat during the autumn, that has helped keep the recent wintry weather at bay, whilst looking stylish. Fat Face at Ilkley is not a large shop but is packed with some really individual clothing.

I was a big fan of Fat Face in Leeds when it was at the previous location in the County Arcade, but now it’s moved to the larger Briggate location, I feel it lost some of it’s quirk and vibe. Maybe it’s me being a little paranoid, or maybe it’s having the same amount of stock spread out over a larger shop floor, but I will admit to almost losing faith in Fat Face. This was until I visited the Fat Face in Ilkley. Faith restored. Now I don’t know whether to blame this on Ilkley’s superiority complex as a town, or whether sheer luck of the draw makes this store better, but there was plenty to poke at on my last visit to the Ilkley store, and the general flow of the shop seemed smoother and more palatable. Describing the clothing type of Fat Face is a bit difficult, it’s not quite Millets style outdoors clothing, and it’s not the trendy Quiksilver, O’Neill style either. Personally I love the jeans in Fat Face, they’re substantial but soft, and cheap in comparison to other high street brands. For the girlies or the boys there are plenty of colours in the range, yet I wouldn’t say they were bold colours. It’s hard wearing stuff, and the jumpers are definitely made to be abused, tied around the waist, hurled in a rucksack, sat on and even worn, fancy that. Women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories, and footwear too, so if it’s kitting out an outdoor activity family, Fat Face ticks the boxes.

Fat Face is the perfect place to look if you are wanting some stylish outdoor gear to go trawling the countryside in.
With a quirky name, it gets noticed a lot. I find that the shop stocks a better alternative to other outdoor shops and also a nice slection of cosy knitwear to keep you warm on wintery days!

A Topshop and River Island just wouldn’t suit the quaint and wealthy town of Ilkley! Stylish outdoor and sports clothes suit the higher class of the area much better, and Fat Face provides just this service.
With the countryside, panoramic views and the beautiful cow and calf rocks on it’s doorstep, the residence of Ilkley need their outdoor clothes for their countryside way of life.
Fat Face offers outdoor clothes at a slightly higher costs than sports wear shops, and much more fashionably. If you shop at Fat Face you can wear your climbing gear without looking frumpy!
It’s not my thing I gotta say, you probably wont ever catch me in a pair of walking boots and I don’t take to any of the clothes. Nevertheless I have many friends from Ilkley and I can’t imagine them in anything else.
The shops caters from children, men and women so is perfect for the whole family! Winter season see’s wooly scarfs, bobble hats annd winter ski coats and summer brings in surf style board shorts, flip flops and bikini’s.
