A few years ago this was a lager-only student bar; the students still go — as do the staff of the nearby Uni — but it has now widened its remit with some excellent Thai food, paintings around the walls, comfortable seating and some ale. I would like them to try a second ale(as well as London Pride) — putting on Fullers’ Gales HSB might be a nice idea, or a seasonal brew. I am sure it would attract the punters, as this is one of the more pleasant public houses in this area.

I go to the cocoanut when I am drunk, real drunk. It is the only pub in kingston where you will get in no matter your state and still have a good time without being hassled by heavy-handed door staff. The reason: because it is not in the town centre, where people who have a social tipple and can’t handle their drinks frequent. The real drinkers know the best bars are on the cusp. The cocoanut has an excellent beer garden and pool table. And a good selection of Beers, Wines and Spirits.

Its not a typo, by the way, this is how the pub spells its name. If you can get over the silly spelling, The Cocoanut is a really fun pub to go to in Kingston. It is a little out of the way, it is not in the main part of Kingston, — it’s behind a park, down what seems to be a residential street. This helps sort the wheat from the chafe if you will. The people who come here have come specifically. The crowd is very young, but always up for a party. It has kind of an indie feel to it. There is a dj in the corner, a pool table, and best of all — sweets behind the bar. I don’t know why I get so excited by jelly beans at a pub, but I do. So there. It is a good place to go to on the weekend. I used to work in a club around the corner, and the first thing that I had to do when my shift started was go around the pubs and drop leaflets for our bar. Do you think I actually did that? Hell no! I sat here with my mates and had some cheeky drinks instead. Good times.
