Dusty & Dylan

Now then vintage fans. Yes, I’ve scooped out another spot for the good stuff! Dusty & Dylan is a newly opened vintage shop for all things second hand, retro and cool. It stands proud in the space that was previously Voodoo HQ — a curious shop which started as a vintage store, then ended a BMX shop. Go figure, I couldn’t.
I only had the time for a quick little browse but in that time I managed to soak up quite a bit about the kinds of things you can expect. It’s not worlds apart from some of the other indie vintage shops you can find springing up around Leeds — retro lampshades, numerous scarves displayed in an old suitcase, denim short shorts with frayed edges and so on. One thing is for sure, there’s a hella lot of stuff in here for fellow magpies. It’s more than just a clothing shop, with homewares, collectibles and all manner of little finds! Plus, the window display for me was a real draw –beautifully done!
I must admit, I didn’t find any gems that were there for me. That’s not to say there wasn’t a lot of stock there — rather, there is loads. All manner of dresses, jewellery bits, shorts, jump suits, playsuits and an equal amount of clothing for the boys you’ll be pleased to hear. (Usually boy-​vintage is a pitiful affair…) A small gripe is that every single item is labelled ‘vintage’ with a brief description of what the garment was — we’re in a vintage shop so to label everything ‘vintage’ is a touch on the overkill. (And I’d hope it was all actually vintage, being in a vintage shop, although one or two items seemed more ‘vintage style’.)
Even so, there were a few beauts on the rail. Although it wasn’t my colouring, there was a gorgeous fifties dress with some beautiful silk and beading. Being a little pink, it wasn’t for me sadly. I was also massively tempted by the playsuits, apparently from the 60s, which were stupidly cute. Unfortunately, the shop was a little too expensive for me, most dresses etc coming in at £30 and up (and there are a few cheaper places than this) but I know that it’s the kind of place you have to invest time in — things won’t easily jump out at you hence the glory of the lengthy browse.
If you put the time in to rummage the rails, you’ll undoubtedly find something special. And if you save your pennies properly, you’ll be able to take home a real treat, and feel all the more special when you don it. Definitely check it out vintage fans, it’s a gorgeous wee shop!
