I’ve heard that this was a good and affordable place to, so I gave it a try when we went to Meadow Hall, Sheffield. We went for food during the lunch hour, and most restaurants now do lunch and dinner menu offers. I went for 2 courses for £9.20! Which actually better than other places has to offer. We were served promptly and we had a nice waitress for the day, although the seating was rather cramped and I felt that conversations were easily overheard. I had the soup of the day(served in a mug) and the Jamaican«Pepper-Pot» Chicken & Squash Curry. The soup was not too bad, however was disappointed that they didn’t serve it with a slice of bread. However my main was so so. There was hardly any flavour and just bland. The chicken was slightly overcooked, and as you got through more of it, it became stringy. Well what did I expect from the price, however most places are trying to be more competitive, but the quality was average. Maybe if I visit again and ordered something, I would be more satisfied, however based on what I ordered, the environment and service, 2 stars is what I am giving for my visit.

I must admit that I was a little concerned when I sat down at Giraffe and read the menu as it seemed that it didn’t have a clear focus with dishes drawn from a wide variety of culinary styles. Generally this results in sub par food but that was not the case on my visit — everything was delicious — although I did only order a burger. Service was perfectly pleasant as well though there was an unreasonably long gap between burger and desert as the staff struggled to work out whether they had sold out of one of the options(unfortunately the answer, belatedly, was yes). Nothing too much to worry about though and it did not spoil the meal. I didn’t get an opportunity to sample the cocktails although they did look tempting — another visit calls I suspect.

I am normally a bit wary of places that serve ‘a bit of everything’, but Giraffe is a huge exception to that rule. If you are ever struggling for a place to suit everyone– Giraffe is the place. The cocktails are fantastic for a start, especially if you partake in the ‘Bar Buddies’ 50% off offer(Sunday-Friday 4−7pm). The food is exceptional, whether you fancy a burger, a bit of Thai, Mexican or Moroccan, Giraffe specialises in all. It is a fantastic place to go for me as it satisfies me the vegetarian, and the raging carnivore that is my boyfriend! It is becoming my ‘go to’ place on Greek Street and it is fantastic to see that a bit of something different on this street. The staff are really friendly and attentive, keeping the table water topped up before you have even noticed you’re running low. They really know their stuff too, and are happy to make recommendations. The only thing I would say is that if you are planning on going for a meal on a Friday night, it does double up as a bar so don’t take the parents or go for a romantic meal as you may find yourself drowned out slightly by the music.

This was my first time at giraffe in Leeds and i will be going again. I ordered the lychee and grapefruit Collins cocktail to start me off. It was a nice refreshing tall drink with that kick of gin. It came served with a big wedge of pink grapefruit which I couldn’t stop myself from chomping on whilst I waited for my starter. Starter I ordered was the poached egg and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The waiter had forgotten to order it but he was so apologetic when he realised, I didn’t have to wait much longer for it. When it came it was cooked beautifully. As I broke in to the yolk it oozed over my asparagus which were cooked perfectly. The hollandaise sauce was thick and smooth as it should be Main course was salmon on creamy mash with more asparagus, again they were all cooked beautifully. The salmon was moist with a nice crispy skin and the mash was smooth and creamy I can’t wait for my next meal there

Went to Giraffe a few weeks ago for a work leaving do. When we arrived it was absolutely bustling but the service was perfect. The front of the restaurant was opened up and there was a live band. Giraffe handled a table of 14 of us really well. The service was quick and the whole the food was faultless, I ordered the 2 courses for £10 and had the chicken skewers to start, followed by the flat iron steak. For £10 you don’t expect a gourmet food and normally 2 for a tenner situations mean good pub food. The starter was delicious, chicken was perfectly cooked and a very generous portion. The flat iron steak was really good quality, very nicely cooked and served with some of the best chips I’ve ever eaten. I ordered a coffee and a lemon dessert. The coffee was really nice but the dessert was bit too lemony for me. Atmosphere was great and everyone had a really good time.

What a brilliant addition to Greek Street, and indeed to Leeds generally! It gets my 5 stars for all the best reasons. The food is amazing(I had the pasta), they do some brilliant cocktails(Mississippi Punch gets my vote, but then so do a few of the others), the staff are all really friendly, the décor is stylish yet relaxing, it’s not overly expensive and they do a brilliant 2 course meal deal after 5pm every night for £10. This place is on my ever growing list of places that I want to visit every week!
