I have been going to this gym for over 1 year. I pay £26.95 per month and have access to the Virgin Life Centre at weekends(the membership for Virgin Life Centre is £50 per month!). I love this gym as it is straight to the point, no fluff! I enjoy all of the machines that are on offer and I enjot it when it’s busy as everyone can motivates each other! I visit the gym twice a week for a varied and tough workouts. Ocasionally, I visit the Life Centre with my partner where we relax in the luxurious spa but I know thta if I was a full time member thereit wouldbea waste of my money as I would not use all of the ‘fluffy’ extras! I recommend Virgin Active in Leeds City Centre to gym goers that like to get down to the business of exercising instead of using the visit to participate in a WI meeting!

I agree with Kitty Kate’s review. The place is dark and miserable — I’ve never felt motivated. It is extremely boring and the facilities are really basic. Can’t comment on classes as never tried to book into one — I dont see many being held on lunch hours other than the circuit training. Had a really bad experience with their sunbed which burnt me! Told staff who said it was me who didnt tan which I wasnt pleased with as I have used sunbeds before, tan on holidays etc — I know my own skin! I asked the manager for a refund of the sessions I had paid for which he agreed to refund part. A month later, the request had been ignored and I had to ask again. In my opinion, I was treat with contempt for criticising their equipment! Needless to say, I have asked to cancel my contract and am counting down the days when it runs out. I would see more results running around town during my lunch — and get some daylight to boot!

I’m not very impressed with Virgin Active in Leeds city centre as it is very expensive for what you actually get. Unlike most gyms in the area it doesn’t have a pool and unlike every other gym in the area it doesn’t actually open on weekends — you have to travel down kirkstall road(a good 20 mins from city centre) to use their facilities and pool(but you can’t use their pool during the week). It’s £60+ a month for a couple with no discounts which is a bit poor. Personally I think there are better gyms with more facilities which are the same price or cheaper. There is even a joining fee here which I think is a bit cheeky because it hardly has the facilities to match the extortionate price. Staff are nice but very pushy which is off putting. I would go to fitness first 5 minutes away or Spirit in Crowne Plaza.
