Good for fish. I had a chorizo risotto dish which was too spicy and wished I had followed my partner and friends who all had fish. The main course prices are good, but starters a bit on the high side. The ambience/décor is fine, but not excellent and the staff were good and helpful. I would go back, but not my favourite restaurant in Leigh.

Went for lunch on bank holiday Monday it was my first time and I was extremely dissapointed. I had clam pasta in a ‘fresh’ pesto sauce, it was watery like they hadn’t drained the pasta properly, which was also overcooked and tastless, not all the clams were open and they wanted extra for bacon, my friends had duck which was overcooked and had to send back. It is overpriced for the standard of food. Drinks are overpriced too. For a bowl of pasta my 5 yr old Niece could make better n 3 soda waters cost me £30. Would not go back there nor would I recomend that place to friends.

Having walked past many times and admired the chic, dark interior and the aromas wafting from within, I thought it was high time I tried Sand Bar! I was not disappointed. We opted to dine for a special occaision this meant we had aperitifs, three-course dinner, and some bubbly. The service was spot on waiting staff were attentive when necessary, and instinctive in their approach for things like top ups and the bill. Fish was cooked perfectly, and perfectly fresh as you would hope anywhere, but especially important to the reputation in a port town like Leigh. My smoked salmon and potato salad dish was exemplary. The portion size was more than generous. The bubbly we ordered was of a good standard, and reasonably priced. Sand Bar’s atmosphere is great, and somewhat dictated by its cool, dark interior there’s a buzz of fun, but not too much noise. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place for an intimate dinner a deux.

I would like to stress that I am only writing this review after a very unsatsfactory response from the restaurant. I believe that it is only right to give the restaurant a chance to explain the mistakes made and the opportunity to put things right. I was not happy with the explanation provided and this, coupled with an unacceptable experience on the night has compelled me to write this. Starter was excellent but at £8.95 for pork belly, it wants to be! Other restaurants in the area charge the same for Pork Belly AND Scallops!!! Maine course was the seafood pasta. Two medium sized forkfuls of pasta was accompanied by what looked like chicken stock and a packet of supermarket bacon that had been cut into the dish and not even seperated. I had to pay extra for the bacon! In addition, half of the seafood was not open. I was told that this is because cockles take longer to open than clamsshould the Chef not know this?! Basically half a pasta dish was nearly £20! Dessert was made using frozen berries, in July in England, this is unforgivable. An extortionate, very very poor meal was made worse by the pitiful response offered by the restaurant after.

A lovely restaurant on The Broadway in Leigh. We went in there a year or so ago and I think it was relatively new then. The style and décor is lovely and the service was superb. The menu is mainly fish but they also do an amazing steak, which was cooked perfectly. Quite expensive but a good place to go when you feel like splashing out, for a birthday or special occasion.
