Known locally as the Half Way house, this pub has stood on the side of the Fosse Way(A46) for years, halway between Newark and Lincoln. It used to thrive on the back of RAF trade from the nearby but now defunct RAF Swinderby base. The(relatively) new pub cum restuarant cum function room is a welcome change up. Its in a rural setting with ample parking and the old dovecote from which it takes its name outside. Inside are two wide and spacious bar areas with the highlight being the locally brewed range of Poachers Ales and the excellent bar meals. The real draw though is the excellent restaurant area which is as fine a dining environment Ive seen anywhere in GB. It is immaculately and tastefully decorated in a neo rustic minimalist style. The menu is varied and based around the Tastes of Lincolnshire programme. There are at least 3 different types of pie and everything we sampled(large group) was very good indeed. About the best in the greater Lincoln area. There is a kiddies play area out back too.
