Bobs Angling Tackle and Bait

One of the shreds of knowledge every person is innately born with is that fishing shops are home to one of the most curious communities in society– the fishermen. It is here that odd, often bearded, men will gather in their stained waterproofs to talk about skimmers, rods and the Kraken. Nobody tells you this, you just know it to be true.
I’ve bought a few things from Bob’s Angling over the years although I’ve never been fishing myself. Before you get creeped out and start envisaging me skulking home to eat handfuls of purchased maggots, bear in mind my elderly neighbour used to go fishing and would recruit me to buy supplies.
The shop is as weird as you expect. Boxes of maggots writhe in muck beneath the glass-​topped counter and strange men do talk of things that got away. Nevertheless, they are highly informed in their pastime and will tell you, with childlike eagerness, just how to snag the White Whale.

I must admit that a guilty pleasure of mine has always been fishing having taken many fishing trips with my father as a youngster. Therefore it was very refreshing to see a tackle shop situated right in the heart of the student haven that is Smithdown road.
When you walk into this store there is the usual musky smell you associate with these types of places and all the sights are the same also, this really gives an authentic feel to the store.
There are the boxes of maggots upon the counter which can make you feel a bit squeamish but you have to keep focussed on the ultimate prize which will be the big catch at the end of the day.
The staff here are great they really know their stuff and there is a wide range of equipment at very good prices.
All in all a great local establishment which caters for a sport and hobby which struggles to survive in the modern day.
