Bold Street

I am a fan of visiting a town or city’s famous streets. You know, Duval in Key West, Bond Street, Worth Ave, Rodeo Dr… it is always fun to see the heart and history. Bold Street was memorable for its set of shops to saunter around mixed with restaurants and pubs. Worth visiting.

Oh gosh. If someone asked me to tell them about Bold Street I’d be explaining all its delights and great haunts for over an hour! This is one of my favourite shopping districts in Liverpool, a place that seems to be constantly re-​inventing and rejuvinating.
Bold Street offers a plethora of great eateries, independent boutiques, sweet shops, charity stores, fancy dress treasure-​troves, a Petticoat Lane, book shops, homeware, art, a Body Shop, Starbucks… you name it, and this Street has it.
Combine that with a lot of charm and the time I bumped into Jimmy Carr wandering down here, and we’re onto a winner.

Bold Street is one of the main streets in Liverpool City Centre. It is an excellent place. It slopes gently up hill and as it does, you pass a huge variety of shops from discount fashion stores to exclusive boutiques, sandwich restaurants to expensive restaurants and banks to body piercers.
As you walk up Bold street take a look upwards to the tops of the buildings. The architecture is stunning and varied. As you get further up look out for the metalwork roses around some of the windows, they are stunning.
Bold Street is pedestrianised in the main part, making the street nice and spacious for strolling alone or in a group without having to stop and move around other people. It has an excellent atmosphere and is a great place to visit.

I was trying to think of what unifies all the businesses on Bold Street and after only eighteen hours of deliberation I had it sussed. Nothing. Nothing unifies them. They are linked together by the fact that they are not linked together. There’s book shops and art shops and cafes, but ultimately it feels like you could find anything down here, like a taxidermist or a hat-​maker or a weird emporium that sells shrunken heads.
This seems even more unique when you stumble out onto Church Street to find chain store after chain store, a tapestry of shops that could be any other city in England. Not like good ol’ Bold Street. Yeah, so there’s a Waterstones and a Tesco (it’d be more sinister if there wasn’t a Tesco) but for the most part this is a stretch of independently-​run businesses that will either outlive the moon or die a death and never be remembered. I salute them all.

Bold Street is a gem of a street that cuts right through the top end of Liverpool city centre, leading up to St Lukes (bombed out) Church. It’s still popular despite the commercialism that ios Liverpool One, dereleicting some of the high street shops! There’s even a Bold Street Festival once a year to commemorate this street that’s steeped in Liverpool’s cultural heritage.
My favourite shops are the unique independent shops on Bols Street. Shops such as Mattas, the international food store, Ressurection, the independent clothes store and Bold Street Coffee, perhaps the best coffee shop for great coffee in the city itself! If you’re due to visit Liverpool, make sure you take a stroll up and down Bold Street before you leave!
Maybe even try one of its fantastic independent restaurants such as the Italian Fish Club or Café Tabac!

Bold Street is one of the city’s most renowned areas. From the south end approached from the city centre Bold Street leads up to the bombed out church at the North end, with Chinatown to the right and the University Campus a little further up to the left. Concert Square, one of Liverpool’s popular clubbing areas is accessed via Bold Street.
There are hundreds of shops along here ranging from the larger nationwide shops near the Southernmost end: Waterstones; Argos; The Body Shop and the more in dependant retailers near the top which include clothes shops and gift shops. The mix of stores creates a distinct Bohemian feel along Bold Street, with cafes, boutiques, art shops, piercing parlours, hobby shops and book shops; there’s something for everyone. There are often street performers and buskers along here which add to the atmosphere,
Named after a slave merchant and one of Liverpool’s ex Mayors, Bold Street has great history and ties to Liverpool’s past; there are stories of ghosts and time warps, bullet holes and ruins from the war and architecture spanning centuries.
Definitely worth a visit
