Cuffs used to be a police station. You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to realise that’s how it got its name. Cuffs. Of course! As in… wait. What? A long mostly-knocked-through room, the building remains separated into two sections for reasons I’m not quite sure of. The clientele are a lively, if mismatched, bunch and although the barman was friendly, he explained just how he was pouring my pint as if I’d never bought one before. Some would call this chatty. I, in my infinite cynicism and hatred of everything, would call it patronising. There’s nothing outwardly wrong with Cuffs, it’s just the kind of pub you’ll spend more time looking at your watch in, as opposed to soaking up the atmosphere.

Cuffs is a modern and stylish café bar with a relaxing atmosphere, a wide range of drinks and good live entertainment. You’re likely to find the younger generation hanging out in here at the weekend, rather than the usual older clientele that are attracted to many of the other pubs on the High Street. Acoustic nights and other live music is a common event, slightly different ambience to its main rival Chillies a few doors down. They also show a lot of the main sporting events on big tvs. The prices aren’t bad but not particularly cheap, with a bottle of wine around £7.
