What a crying shame! This place could easily be a five star if it pulled its weight! In search of good food after a heavy drinking session, I weakly tapped into my handy Unilocal app. I had initially found a good sounding Japanese restaurant. but when we followed the trial it was not to be found. I strongly suspect this place has replaced it. After chasing our tails the waft of Sunday roast filled our nostrils. My stomach gurgled. right we were eating here. It was like walking into someone’s living room. I mean this in a positive way. Long cushioned Seats lay across a beautiful wooden floor. Some encircled a open fire, a far corner sign advertised blankets to make it extra snuggly, or umbrellas to protect you from the rain outside. Ducking underneath an end entry way led you to a room where jazz bands performed. Anyway blown away by the cosey, relaxed ambience I couldn’t wait to get stuck into the food. A waitress first sat next to us and asked what we would like to drink. despite the cocktail menu looking fab, our tender selves ordered a pineapple juice each. I only looked at the Sunday roasts. All had roast potatoes, asparagus, beetroot, carrot, green beans, cauliflower, Yorkshire puddings and a tasty gravy. The centrepiece varied from beef, lamb, nutroast or sea bass. Himself went for the beef, I had the sea bass. Then it felt like we waited ages… a lady popped out later to ask If I wanted the gravey on the side because of the fish. Which I agreed. When the food finally arrived, the presentation was good. The vegetables tasted fresh, however slightly undercooked for me. The sea bass was cooked to my liking, with its crispy skin. The gravey was beautifully seasoned with the right consistency. However the Yorkshire puddings didn’t make it to the party. When I enquired about their absence, I was simply told«oh we’ve ran out, we will be running out of potatoes next!» I didnt find this amusing considering it was £12+ and they offered no resolution or couldn’t be arsed mentioning this when we ordered… Also not once did someone ask how the meal was. When we tried to pay all the staff ignored us. Again this place had potential. But the staff needs to be retrained and the chef needs to cook more to order.
