Don’t you hate it when you get a hungering for a takeaway and can’t remember the name of the really good one you last went to which was cheap and good quality? This is how I found myself a few weeks ago, and the household had decided we all wanted a curry. No — the name of the one on Smithdown that does an amazing korma for about a fiver just can not be retrieved from the recesses of my mind, so we opted to go to a local one on Aigburth Road — Noor. I phoned up and placed the order, found out how long it would take and after much anticipation jumped in the car to retrieve it. I don’t remember ordering poppadoms but we got some with dips, and I don’t remember ordering bread either, but we got a peshwari naan. Once I got back home(a 5 minute drive) and started dishing out the food, we found that it wasn’t exactly piping hot. More like luke warm. But the bag had been steaming hot when I collected it — I suspect they just put the whole bag on a hot plate. To be fair, I was about 10 minutes late collecting the food because I had to make an emergency stop at Tesco, but surely there’s no excuse for the food to already be only warm? Anyway, the curries themselves were quite bland — my mate had demanded a vindaloo and though the woman on the phone warned that it was very hot, my mate managed to eat it with so much as blushing. My korma was runny and the chicken hard and flavourless. Not somewhere I’d dash out to again in a hurry.
