Quo Vadis is yet another restaurant in Formby village or the surrounding area that specialises in Italian cuisine, bringing the total in Formby alone to around 4 or 5 in such a small area. The food in Quo Vadis is nice enough, with their menu offering the usual pizza and pasta dishes as well as a large selection of chicken and meat dishes(I’d recommend the Pollo al Formaggio — chicken breast stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and covered in a creamy sauce) but its problem is that it’s essentially the same sort of thing that’s done everywhere else. With the excellent Don Luigi’s just around the corner, I feel Quo Vadis suffers the same problem as Zenzero in that it’s just not as good. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated inside, although the front reminds me a bit of a GCSECDT project. They also have a function room upstairs that is available for any parties or special occasions that is particularly comfortable and spacious. This function room also doubles up on match days as a place to watch the footy in luxury, with Quo Vadis even putting a free buffet on for all the fans watching, a nice touch.

Quo Vadis is one of Steven Gerrard’s favourite restaurants and it’s easy to see why. The recently refurbished Italian has beautiful contemporary décor. Whether you sit inside or outside on a nice evening, you are free to take in all of Quo Vadis’ beautiful interior and exterior. The menu(which has some interesting Latin language) is pretty varied but mostly sticks to traditional Italian dishes. I had a delicious pizza and my father had spaghetti with meatballs(obviously these were named much for extravagantly on the menu). We also had a side of chips, which I believe were home-made as they were particularly delicious. Prices are very reasonable and the staff are very friendly. Our waiter was particularly funny and took his time to chat with us. A great restaurant.

Honestly, in Formby you’re not spoiled for choice cuisine-wise — unless you try the balti house or plump for a pub lunch you’re pretty much looking at Italian food, or at least variations on this. Paninis, pizzas and pasta are the order of the day. In terms of menu choice then at least Quo Vadis gives you some interesting twists and alongside the usual range of past arrabiattas and pizza rusticas there are flavourful liver salads and some good seafood options. The quality of the starchy staples is, for me, eclipsed by Don Luigi’s just a few minutes walk away but when you’re after something a little different at a reasonable price then Quo Vadis is well worth a try. The service is very friendly and attentive with staff going out of their way to make your dining experience pleasant and the restaurant itself is a clean and well lighted place if not a little dated in its décor.
