A great little bar which is the perfect place to hit for a few pints on a sunny day. A fairly standard selection of drinks but it’s the large outdoors space that makes it a winner — if you’re looking for somewhere from mid afternoon in summer then the sun is in the perfect place for an afternoon of body baking! They’re pretty cool with you drinking in the public square next door, you might just need to kick a few teenage skateboarders out of the way first(or have them jump over you!) 10 mins walk from Lime Street station and 1 minute from Lucha Libre cantina — don’t miss this Mexican!

Just been to the Peackock bar I was on a works night out with four other people and was surprised at how aggressive the security were. One of my female friends spilt her drink by accident and a security man came over and shouted at her and grabbed her by the arm, she was so upset she began to cry and when I asked him to stop he told the four of us to «get out of his bar» I am 50 years old and have never felt so intimated it was my first time there and I would certainly never go back there again would not recommend that anybody goes there

For the benefit of those of you not in the Liverpool know, The Peacock is nestled nicely in the heart of the city’s trendy clubland quarter and is found to be bustling with life on most occasions. Inside you can enjoy the experiance of sampling your beers(not me), your wines(girlies), your spirits(chamon) and your cocktails(metrosexuals) In addition its a perfect place in the summer to diginto their themed barbies on fridays and saturdays. For those who don’t snooze there is alot on offer here with gorgeous food for you to munch on. I’d keep an eye on the met office and correlate the weather with an alert eye for which friday the barbecue is and boom, you’re onto a winner!

I never truly realised how cliquey town can be until I visited the Peacock. I’m not referring to people either, I mean the actual, factual buildings seem to have formed themselves into groups that perfectly mirror human social circles. God, what do I sound like saying that? Don’t answer that. If the pubs skirting the edges of town are the weird worm-eating kids and Concert Square the bombastic, skin-headed Neanderthals of the classroom, then the Seel Street bloc is the unashamedly trendy bunch of so-and-sos whose clothes you want to staple to an express train. Somehow feeling like a suck-up to Alma de Cuba across the road, the Peacock is a voguish hipster lair with an interior that resembles eight different bars cobbled together and a clientele who wouldn’t urinate on their own wardrobe even if scientists promised them it would cure pet death. This is the kind of bar that is expensive just because it knows that’s what people expect of it, an attitude that makes my blood boil faster than a kettle-intravenous.

Two words FREEBBQ! That is the main reason that ravenous students would flock to The Peacock between 6 and 8 pm on a Friday, as far as I know this offer is unique to this bar. The problem for students is having the cash to stay on at The Peacock when the free grub has disappeared as the drinks are quite pricey reflecting the fact that this place is a trendy and upmarket type bar. This is not a criticism of The Peacock in anyway it has excellently cool décor, a good atmosphere, nice outdoor seating and also an brilliantly cool Peacock statue of its’ own. The crowd at The Peacock is an older and more sophisticated one, basically people who have the cash to spare without worrying to much about the effect it may have on their wallet. I’d recommend this bar as more of a daytime spot to relax and I’d definitely suggest the free bbq on Friday’s, however if your a student scrounger who is keeping an eye on the threadbare wallet then I would say there are cheaper options which are just as much fun.

Like any of the bars along Seal Street, The Peacock is best enjoyed out of the usual peak hours of Friday and Saturday night as this street and the nearby Wood Street and Slater Street attract the worse people at these times. Of an afternoon, and especially when the sun is shining, the patio is a great place to have an afternoon drink — the small square it sits next to between Alma and Revolution even seems nice. On the busy nights I have been in here I have found the staff obnoxious — and even caught them under pouring my drink. The upstairs is a wholly uncharacteristic and slightly sordid feeling vibe compared to the more down to earth feel of the lower bar which seems to attract pr**ks.

It is a little galling when you hand over a tenner to a barman for two bottles of beer and receive less than a pound in change. As you might have gathered from my Unilocaling compadres The Peacock is not a particularly cheap place to have a drink. It is a particularly nice place though, especially as has been pointed out on summer’s evenings when you can sink your teeth into some free steak, burger and hog from the barbecue laid on. You could be in a street bar in Barcelona were it not for the tramps drinking Special Brew on the stone seating nearby. For me, it’s the music here that particularly impresses; a mix of rock and roll classics(from Little Richard to Led Zeppelin) and indie and Alt. folk stuff(from Delphic to Ryan Adams) — a perfect flipside to all the northern soul and funk played elsewhere on Seel Street.

Thoroughly pretentious and in-style bar staff with extra attention paid to low slung trousers and facial hair. Check. Neil Young played ironically amid the new songs of the indie scene. Check. Groups of cool slightly better off than your average students and socialites. Check. Check. Well, if this list is ringing true you’ve found yourself in Peacock. The hang-out for all of the above. You might be thinking Hell yes! This sounds like my kind of place, hot bar guys, great music and a good mix of clientele and so after that slightly scathing intro it’s probably best to counter-balance it. Although not really my scene they do make a damn good cocktail and I would recommend the Peacock’s Punch which, although £5.50 is exceedingly refreshing, especially if you’re sat in the outside seating area on a sunny afternoon. It does get absolutely rammed here of an evening and they have DJs and a small dance floor upstairs where you can get your groove on and if you’re in the area on a Friday and there is an enticing chargrilled scent weaving its way around the streets you can bet its coming from the immensely popular free BBQ, hosted every Friday from 6−8pm. Just make sure you get there early and I’d suggest bringing a little extra cash or you might find yourself out of pocket a little more swiftly than usual.

Situated alongside a host of other trendy venues, The Peacock makes great company for them as it’s something of a hotspot and effortlessly cool. It has that whole understated vibe and pretty much epitomises Liverpool’s achingly hip indie scene. The interior is really funky, with quirky décor; chandeliers, booths, modern artwork on the walls, some distressed furniture, that sort of thing. There are definitely plenty of places to sit and it manages not to be pretentious as well, which is a bonus. It’s a very comfortable and welcoming ambience that’s presented here, and it certainly makes the ideal sort of bar to indulge in a good catch-up with friends. There’s tons of space to dance as well when the DJs take up residence so it can even be considered a bar-cum-club in some respects. It’s an eclectic crowd that likes The Peacock, from your student types to socialites, an alternative crowd and the creative sort. Everyone seems to get along well enough and it’s nice to see so many walks of life happy in one spot. The music reflects this too. The staff are ridiculously friendly and endearingly confident, and instantly make you feel content. They’re good mixologists too and there are plenty of cocktails to choose from. As for food, how do you fancy a free Barbie every Friday? Uh, yes! Between 6−8pm you can get homemade burgers, sausages, chicken wings and veggie soup making it the perfect after work celebration. There are themes too, meaning you can get varieties such as fajitas, chillies and stews. And on the last Friday of every month there’s a hog roast alongside the barbecue to celebrate payday. What more could you want? And it’s all free! Be prepared for the sheer popularity of these events though. As for paid food, it’s thin and crispy pizzas here, served on wooden slabs with no cutlery so it really is as rustic as you can get. The toppings are lush too, and remarkably healthy. All in all this is a bustling, atmospheric place that’s definitely made its mark in the city centre despite being quite young. Bravo.

The Peacock does free BBQs on random Fridays throughout the month — you need to keep up to date with their facebook profile to know what’s happening and when. I always seem to miss these. Maybe it’s because the barby was from 6pm and when I got there at 7.30pm the place was so packed it was stupid to even think they were still serving food. On a balmy, summer night it’s an ideal place to hang out if you manage to get some burgers in, although being right on top of the skateboarders’ square doesn’t really help. Once we realised our error, I asked my mate if we should stay for a drink anyway, to which he replied«you’re joking aren’t you? It’s far too expensive here» Being a connoisseur of beer related drinks I decided to take his word for it. And besides, the bar was about 6 deep anyway. Not a bad little bar, but not very well thought out spatially. There are a number of obstructions in front of the bar which means that if there is a bit of a rush on, you all get channelled into one section, and then you end up overcrowding the people who are just standing about drinking. The outdoor section is very large either, and there were groups of people sitting on a filthy floor outside the barriers because their whole group couldn’t fit inside the barriers. Nice looking club, but the dimensions put me off when it’s busy and the drink prices aren’t exactly cheap.
