Every once in awhile, homesickness gets the better of me and I need sushi. We’ve tried Etsu(never again), which leaves Yo! Sushi as pretty much the only other dedicated sushi game in the city center. It is what it is. If it’s maki you’re after, the options are limited but there are some bright-ish points, namely the«Yo! Roll» and salmon dragon roll. The rice to fish ratios in the nori and nigiri are downright insulting; the standalone sashimi is a better bet. Yo! Sushi’s hot food options are tastier on the whole, but not overly healthy — and it goes without saying that if you want deep-fried dumplings, chicken bits, or noodles, there are plenty of other restaurants that do this just as well, and for cheaper(Mei Zhen, I’m looking at you). Yo!‘s atmosphere is irritatingly, eye-poppingly chain-y, but the staff are friendly and helpful enough. Unless you absolutely need to have Japanese, however, the prices make this one difficult to recommend outright. Despite opting for tea instead of alcohol and foregoing dessert, we managed to rack up a £45 bill for a by-no-means-amazing and by-no-means indulgent dinner. To put this in perspective, that’s more than the cost of a quality, more-than-you-need experience(including drinks and dessert) at the likes of Delifonseca or the Quarter. The passable sashimi and maki roll or two, however, squeaks this one from a 2 to a 2.5. Cautiously recommended(with irritation).

so I needed a quick pick me up after a… not so great weekend… so I tapped in sushi into the Unilocal search engine and it brought me here… I would say every Yo Sushi I have been to are all the same… which is a good thing… staff are very attentive… this helps having a button at your table which signals for them to come over… and the menu is plentiful. I personally love the sashimi .so I ordered lots of this at once. and grabbed a grey(£5) plate full of different types of salmon .it is better value of money to get the grey plates because if you order maki, nigri and sashimi it would cost you more than £5… This was washed down with hot sake(which tastes better heated).the sake menu is not extensive. offering only two types… but hey what do you expect from a chain… I personally felt quite comfortable having my solo sushi feast, because I admit when I go for sushi I am not sociable… to talk would give me less time to stuff my face with maki… Overall a very tidy, good atmosphere place to be… you just have to be careful counting the plates as you go along… as Yo sushi is not the most cheapest of places in comparison to such places as Wasabi… and it can be easy to get carried away.
Service can take a while and it can get pricey but the staff are friendly and the food is great. I like to visit whenever I’m in town. The pumpkin korroke is amazing!

Wanna know one of the reasons I don’t mind Mondays? Yo! Sushi run a special promotion where you can get any of the plates on their menu for the special price of £2.20 each. Admittedly, they always seem to run out of the hand-rolled, california rolls but there’s usually lots of other delicious dishes to choose from including vegetable temperua, pumpkin korroke, chicken katsu, salmon sashami, tuna maki, vegetable futomaki and firecracker rice. I’m also partial to the hairy prawns despite the appalling title!

I’m not sure if its because we arrived there for dinner an hour before their closing time, but basically the food on the belt looked like they’ve been there all day and they never bothered refilling the conveyor belt with the salmon sushi dishes or the sashimi(which was what I was looking forward to eating)! I suppose that sort of thing is understandable to a certain extent, since they were going to close in an hour and the restaurant was quite empty already by that point, but then they might as well put up a sign outside saying«If you’re going to arrive here an hour before we close, expect to see most of the popular salmon dishes gone.» then I’d have saved myself a trip that evening! I ended up ordering dishes of hot cooked food from their menu and was quite happy at the quality and taste(Chicken Katsu curry and rice was one of them). However, the food is a bit costly because the portions are really tiny(I actually needed to eat about 2 portions) and you get charged about £4 or £5 for each portion.

I have never been the type of person to turn up my nose at food of any kind but one type of cuisine I had not tried until recently is sushi but having been to Yo Sushi I was glad I made the leap into this new culinary world. Sitting around a conveyor belt of food was an odd experience for me but the novelty really added to my enjoyment of the whole dining experience. Living in Liverpool independently has forced me to branch out an awful lot and eating here was a small but important step in terms of my culinary development. This place felt relaxed and very comfortable indeed and I really enjoyed all that was on offer. The most impressive thing for me about Yo Sushi was the sheer variety on offer with over 90 dishes available meaning that my eyes were lit up watching the culinary delights glide past on the conveyor belt. On the whole a novel place which really impressed me and made me a fan of the world of sushi.

I wouldn’t say I’m a sushi addict but from time to time, I do enjoy having a different lunch from the usual stuff I eat. So, I decided to try Yo Sushi today. Having arrived at 11am, much to my morning hunger, I learnt that I needed to wait a further hour before they opened. Nevertheless, it was nice to watch the staff through the window preparing the food. Before today, I was a Yo Sushi virgin but now I’m pleased to say that I no longer am. Even though I spent about £10 on three dishes before I knew it, it was a new experience. My favourite out of the three dishes I chose had to be the Chicken Yakisoba noodles(a bit like chow mein). The sushi was good(nothing really different to what I could buy at the supermarket) and the deep fried octopus balls were a bit of a joke as it mainly consisted of a mash potato consistency and hardly any octopus. The plus side, is that you can top up on some of their drinks but one cup of Japanese green tea was enough for me! Yo Sushi has excellent standards and customer service was helpful and welcoming. The décor, background music and seating layout are impressive, enhancing the trendy Japanese theme. On the other hand, I would not go mad on the food and their prices.

It seems a sin to say it but by far my favourite thing from Yo! Sushi is the chicken yakisoba, which is neither cold nor is it fish. I do enjoy the sushi available here too(the spicy tuna iso and the eel nigiri are very good) they just don’t really match up to the quality of some of the hot dishes, for me anyway. Food aside this branch is positioned ideally for a break from a day of trawling around the shops of Liverpool One, providing a quick, but not rushed, dining experience somewhere between the on-the-fly, foil-wrapped fajita-y goodness of Barburitto just across the courtyard and the delicious but pricier food you might get at Yee Rah next door. I would avoid the bottomless miso soup — it really isn’t great. I couldn’t manage to stomach another bowl even though refills were free, and it really is unusual for me to pass up free food.

I do like this particular branch of Yo Sushi even though they always take so long to bring my order to me. I always order the pumpkin korroke, vegetable gyoza and vegetable firecracker rice as soon as I sit down. As I know it is unlikely these items to be on the conveyor. The last time I went my boyfriend had finished his 8 – 10 plates and my plates still had not arrived. I waited for 30 mins in the end. I even queried the order and was told«it won’t be long» — no just another 15 mins… The gyoza and korroke are usually burnt to a crisp as well. The reason I have given this location a decent rating is because at the end of the day the food my boyfriend and my friend’s order are ok. It’s just my items they can’t seem to cook properly. Also the miso soup isn’t that nice from this location, a bit too salty. Plus by the time you get the free refill you’ve finished your meal.

My sister and i decided to go to the Yo Sushi bar as a change and were plesently suprised with the whole concept of choosing your dishes from a conveyor. The staff were very helpful and friendly and although sushi is not my favorite type of food it was very nice and tasted fresh. I would deffinetly go back some day.

My first taste of the Yo Sushi experience, here in Liverpool. I’ve been back 4 times in 2 months… this is fun. A unique way of serving, with the rotating conveyor belt. Fresh Japanese food prepared right before your eyes. You control what you spend with the colour coded dishes and easy to understand menu. The helpful staff will always guide you through the experience, if you’re new to this. Not big, an never too busy. Huge & crazy photo collage of Liverpool scenes and interesting people decorates a whole wall. Not too expensive, and great when you want to try something different to eat, and then something else, and then something else, and then…

I love Yo Sushi and was so happy when a new one opened in Liverpool(I had been travelling to Manchester for a monthly fix). Everything is just as fantastic as in all the other branches. Will be spending lots of my hard earned cash here. REMEMBER: Sushi is not raw fish. Sushi is a particular type of flavoured rice which forms the basis of all the different rolls etc. Sashimi is raw fish.
