BT Local Business

Yup. A one star review in December. Bah humbug.

If you take a gander at my reviews, you’ll note that i’m a pretty nice gal. Rarely does a business get me so tingly under the fingernails mad that they are warranted a one star. But today, BT joined this tiny but infamous group.
I work from home and largely online. When I moved into my new flat, I got it set up with BT Infinity — and i’m taking the Mercedes package: fastest download speeds, unlimited useage, etc. Sure, it’s pricey, but as someone who has tried to do with job with shoddy internet in the past, I know that a strong connection is worth it’s weight in gold.
And it would have been… had it delivered on what it promised.
Since day one, my internet has been wonky. It drops the signal, it asks for the password repeatedly and then denies access (even with the right pw in place) and worst of all, it loses connection in the midst of important, unsaveable things like newsletters and blog posts. I was told there might be some bumps and bruises to work out in the first month, so i’ve been pretty patient with it. But when I lost my newsletter draft for the fourth time today, I lost my marbles and decided to stuck it up and call BT directly.
Enter TWO HOURS ON THE PHONE IN THE MIDDLE OF MY WORK DAY.
Which concluded in the statement: well there is nothing wrong with the connection, it must be your device. Now, let’s get one thing straight here — I have three devices: two computers and a cell phone that connect when needed to this network. For what i’m paying, having multiple connections was not supposed to be a problem and with all three acting up, I have a hard time believing that ALL my devices have suddenly bit the broadband bullet.
After pointing this out, the gent I was speaking with said he had to run some tests and couldn’t be on the phone for them — they would call me back in 15 minutes.
That was four hours ago.
I popped back on the phone at one point but after five minutes of hold music, decided pouring myself a glass of wine would better suit my sanity.
The best part? I’m writing this while connected to the BT with FON wifi service. Yeah, the junkie free wifi you can snag on the go. My computer won’t connect with the super hub but has no problem locking on to a weak, sketchy signal from the same company’s wifi service?
Yup. It’s definitely my computer. You keep telling yourself that.
BT: we are never ever EVER getting back together.

This is a review for BT Openreach, who royally deserve it — it’s just unfortunate you can’t go into negative stars here!
It may be «good to talk» but, at 3:30 in the morning, it would have been far more satisfying to shout.
Something about the chinese-​water-​torture style of a large steel crowbar meeting, with some force, a metal man-​hole cover in the street below at irregular but frequent intervals made me want to completely ignore what my mother taught me about people not being able to say anything nice not saying anything at all…
Thanks, BT, for ruining an otherwise good nights’ sleep, ensuring today is designated a «give up coffee for a month my ass» day, and generally being unbelievably inconsiderate in a residential area… it’s been good to get that off my chest, even if it’s more grumble than ‘talk’…
