For evening drinking in Canton, Chapter is a good bet — but if you want a cosy, traditional pub, the Canton is a good choice. It was refurbished fairly recently, and has a nice open fire for wintry nights, or a nice beer garden for balmy summer evenings. It attracts a fairly mixed crowd of people, young and old, and has a relaxed atmosphere — worlds away from the football crowds at the nearby Corporation, and the noisy environment of the Ivor Davies. Their food menu often includes seasonal ingredients and Welsh dishes, and is very reasonably priced and draws in plenty of loyal regulars. Customers can also use a free car park behind the pub(accessible via Cowbridge Road East).

Like The Butchers Arms, but perhaps not in the same league, I like the vibe of this traditional local pub… it’s certainly a lot more laid back and less noisy than The Corporation opposite, or The Ivor Davies and The Gascombe just around the corner. The food is wholesome and well priced(£5.99 for a choice of Sunday roasts… with good sized portions of everything, and usually cooked to perfection), and the landlords keep the pumps clean. This is a well carted for business that aims to please. There’s a pleasant beer garden with smoking area, without which I possibly wouldn’t come so often. I’m a smoker you see!

This is one of my preferred pubs in Canton and it always seems to have a good vibe and a decent crowd of people. Its recently been done up a bit too it looks the part as well. Inside it has a lovely really coal fire which is beautiful in the winter and it does a good lunch too.
