Yup, that’s right, I love this place. Loves: — The same 8 dishes are always served so you know what you’re getting. — You ask for tap water and the provide your table with a jug, with ice — Their home made ice cream needs to be highlighted, on dark days I will come here and consume several scoops. — The food is fresh and I love their sticky white fish dish. — You’ll not pay more than £6 and leave here knowing you’ve got your moneys worth. — The staff are always so friendly. It’s not posh, it’s not amazing food but for what it is, I love it!

Under 6 pounds for an all you can yet Malaysian buffet? Is this for real? As solid as 3 stars as you get. Extensive selection of dishes… samosas, spring rolls, braised beef, veg curry, stir fry fish, etc. Probably a dozen or so items to choose from. Food was tasty enough for 6 pounds, though nothing I would re-order if it wasn’t all you could eat. Food was more similar to Indian fusion than I was expecting. If you are looking for a very large and inexpensive meal near Clerkenwell, 54(or the more creative 5ifty 4our spelling) should be near the top of your list.

In my Friday afternoon ambition, I had planned on listing the 54 reasons I enjoyed 5ifty 4our… but now that Friday evening has rolled around I’ll leave you with my favourite of those 54 reasons: 1. £6 Malaysian buffet lunch. Minutes after the vermicelli noodles, shiitake mushrooms, fish, spring rolls, chicken wings, fried rice, bean sprout, pineapple, cucumber salad and dhal & veggie curry were all piled high on my plate, they were gone once again and my tummy was bursting. I then paid £6 and left. Any questions?

I really wanted to like this place. It is located close to home and serves Malaysian food, both endearing factors. The food was great, though serving mash with a fair proportion of the mains didn’t seem very Malaysian in my books. Still, it was tasty enough to disregard the authenticity issues. Unfortunately however, I was wee bit disappointed with the service. The staff were oppressively attentive, which I hate. They were there hovering despite the totally empty restaurant, and even tried to run off with my plate before I had finished. This is a clear breach of the basic rules of wait staff, which states that unless all knife and fork are laid down next to each other, the plate is not finished. Though they were very nice, the over attentive staff, made the meal slightly uncomfortable, and for that reason, I cannot recommend this place all that highly.
