The Ah King is on the corner of Bloomsbury Way and Bury Place and calls itself a Café Noodles . The place has quite a mixed clientele, from couples to businessmen and occasional groups of what appear to be coach tours of tourists: but they all seem to be served quickly and disappear happy. The food is broad-spectrum oriental with standard Chinese dishes with rice or noodles, dishes based on large bowls of noodles with different meats and more impressive ones like whole steamed fish and Golden Fried Crab. Not the best Oriental food I’ve ever had, but it was good value and very tasty: recommended.

Ive been here 2 times, the first one got the english menu and was not so excited about it, the second had dinner with chinese friends and got the chinese menu, what a difference… more options with very different sauces /cooking styles. Besides the soup noodles they do good veggie and tofu dishes, and the dim sum is not bad either. Good grub and cheap, hope they update their english menu soon!

This restaurant is surprisingly nice. I came here for lunch with a friend, and we were the first ones there. The restaurant filled up incredibly fast, though. They kept rushing us to order(I’m pretty sure various servers came up to us at least 10 times in the span of 5 minutes), but at least they were attentive. I got one of the lunch specials(chicken satay + black pepper beef). It was okay — the chicken satay only came with two sad little pieces, but the sauce was amazing, and the black pepper beef was far too salty. Everything tasted fresh, though. We got a 10% student discount, so we only paid about 5.75 each — not bad for Chinese food. Next time I come I’m going to try my friend’s roast duck rolls, which looked amazing.

I was pretty impressed with the décor after judging the restaurant from outside. I took an especially long nap and when I woke up(at 9:45 pm), the boyfriend was starving so we walked around trying to find late night food. Ah King was open until 11pm and the menu looked pretty comprehensive. The boyfriend had pad thai which he said was«just okay» and I had the egg noodles with roast duck. The soup was not as flavorful as I would have preferred so I added a lot of spicy chili oil. The duck was also a bit flavorless but maybe I’m being a bit too critical because I tend to like things extra salty/sweet/spicy, etc. I felt like we could have walked a little further down towards Chinatown and found cheaper, tastier noodles. Even though we were the last patrons in the restaurant, the staff didn’t rush our meal. Decent dining experience although nothing spectacular.
