Aldo were founded by a French Canadian, Aldo Bensadoun, in Montréal in 1972, and have since expanded opening stores in the USA, UK, Ireland, and franchises in more than 30 other countries. They make and sell women’s and men’s fashion shoes and boots, and associated accessories, in styles which are a little more adventurous than your average High Street store: for example, they were among the first to go for the trend of pointy shoe styles, and theirs are among the pointiest you’ll find. All of which, I suppose, means sacrificing comfort for style But they certainly offer something a bit different. Prices aren’t bad for a fashion outlet, and they have good sales from time to time. The staff are helpful if you need help, but do that irritating thing of rushing up to you as you enter and saying, ‘can I help you?’, before you’ve even had time to view all the stock. So a star knocked off for that. Also, this shop doesn’t stock the full range — the Oxford Street branch is larger and has more styles.
