Green Lanes has the best and the cheapest Mediterranean groceries in London. End of! I always make the trek up to the super long stretch of eclectic stores, it’s a real hybrid of many countries and what you would pay much more fore in fancy farmers markets you can find just here at dirt cheap prices. Andreas Michli & Son is by far one of the best Cypriot shops and I can find everything I want here, from feta cheese, fresh vine leaves and baklava to delicious fresh bread. It’s also got the character and charm that you’d expect from a Mediterranean shop. The fruit and veg is very fresh and they have a great choice of herbs wrapped in big bunches. There are lots of different olives to choose from and the kalamata olives ones are really juicy, unlike the dried up old ones you find in supermarkets which is why I think most English people go for the green ones instead. The Michili farm in Hertfordshire supplies lots of the food and I love this sustainable attitude from a very local and very modest shop. Everything else is imported from Cyprus so you wont find more authentic ingredients. Plus Andreas is smiley guy with a little twinkle in his eye so I like giving my money to this charming family operation. Just a note, the shop isn’t marked, so don’t mistakenly walk past it’s corner position without going in!
