Auberge is a bit like a pair of slippers … very comfortable and cosy but you wouldn’t wear them to impress. I like the fact that this restaurant/bar has been around for ages and barely changed. It has never been super-trendy but also never seems to date. I hadn’t been for quite a while as the area around Waterloo is no longer the culinary desert it once was — you don’t have to walk far to find more interesting options. But it still serves as a convenient meeting place for a mid-week lunch. It also seems popular for office parties(not surprisingly as it is literally across the road from the station). The food is nothing special, but comes in decent portions at reasonable prices. This is for those occasions where a meal just serves as a backdrop for a good conversation — no hmm-ing and ah-ing but no complaints either. Same goes for the drinks. Obviously a winning combination as Auberge is still here, and long may it continue.

Service is really really good and u can use taste card/vouchercloud/codes etc but the food is absolutely terrible. They are supposedly known for mussels but they kind of ran out of mussels so I could only get a starter portion — worst mussels I’ve had in my life, especially considering the fact that cooking mussels in white wine and garlic is not the most difficult dish in the world. Only reason I didn’t give this one star because the service was supreme — only saving grace!

Hmmm not sure what to write, this place was confusing. Appearance wise this is a nice and very cozy restaurant… But more importantly, the food preparation was unsafe. Our experience here started off alright but there were some problems. I ordered the salmon filet. The sides that it came with, chive potatoes and the steamed spinach, I really liked. At first I even liked the filet… until I got closer to the centre and noticed that it was completely raw in the middle: /…oh dear. I thought that perhaps this was a one time mistake, after all every restaurant makes mistakes sometimes. However, it turns out that my friend who ordered the lamb got food poisoning. In his case there were no visible problem signs like in my case, but he did get sick. I’m sceptical about this place now. An extra star because they did not charge me for the crab cakes I ordered as a replacement, a sign of good service.

Awwww-berge. I probably wouldn’t go to you if you weren’t DIRECTLY across the street from my office. but since you are, I find myself frequenting you often. I have only had snacks from there, and they were typical greasy pub grub, but I would have to say that Auberge is just an average bar. The wait staff is friendly, and that’s really their best asset. it can get crowded so sometimes it slows down, but it’s a tiny bar with a few bar staff, so i wouldn’t suggest it if you are looking for the ideal-pub-to-start-your-night-off it’s more of a go-there-after-work-and-get-drunk-for-your-ride-home kind of pub.

Really a local for me as I work in Waterloo. Can be very hit and miss — if they are busy they seem to loose it. Food isn’t bad although mainly fried or in some sort or batter and sauce. Can be full of drunk office workers or deathly quiet with touists pouring over maps and guide books. Good during evening for a couple of drinks and a quick meal. Can have wonderfully rude service from some of the waitresses, as the French seem to excel at!

For absoloutely superb French cuisine with a modern twist, come to Auberge, near London’s superb Southbank area. This place is usually busy, busy, busy with lots of locals and office workers on their way home. It’s a great place to take friends(if you fancy splashing some cash) or for a romantic meal for two. I’ve mostly been here with my boyfriend and I can tell you the menu is varied, delicious and something special indeed. It feels like your sitting in a little piece of France here plus there’s a terrace on which you can sit too. A great place for French cuisine, near transport and in the hub of the buzzing Southbank — a perfect metropolitan night out in the city…

We needed to find somewhere to have a quick a bite to eat before meeting friends and the Auberge just happened to be there. The menu(French) looked good — not too pricey and the restaurant looked nice, spacious and contemporary. As there was only one other table in use the service was swift and polite. The starters were excellent — and I could have just ordered a larger serving for my main course! However, the main courses were not up to the same standard. I had mussels — and although they were clean, with no grit, they were pretty tasteless. I have had far superior ones elsewhere, in less notable places. Probably wouldn’t return nor recommend to friends — walk a bit further and find somewhere better!

Not one of my favourite places in the area, a bit over-priced and if you’re a real beer drinker you might struggle! However, went to a group event and the snacks provided were very tasty and the wines were good too. Not a promising location, perhaps The Wellington on the corner would be a better bet.

This is one of my favourite places to go for a drink in this area. Its not immediately obvious where it is when you come out of the underground station — its just down a little side street on the opposite side of the road. Downstairs there is a bar with lots of seating — small tables — where you can enjoy a beer or two, and you can also eat here if you wish. Upstairs there is more of a traditional restaurant atmosphere(although when it is busy they have just let me have a drink up here and not eat). The food is reasonable, and you are never left waiting too long for it. The overall atmosphere is cosy and somewhat romantic. Only negative is that it gets absolutely packed in there.

Initially dubious of this place as it was described as being designed for tourists(which technically fitted me but you know what I mean). On arrival though all fears were dispelled — very cosy & welcoming atmosphere & the staff were quite happy to let us drink relatively undisturbed for a fair while before we ordered. Good & well priced selection of continental beers and my croque monsieur hit the spot whilst my companion’s risotto and accompanying salad also went down well. The food was also sensibly priced.
