Baldwins Butchers

If you’re a yummy mummy who just wants rib-​eyes for the barbie or ready-​trimmed lamb crown for the dinner party, fine, they do all that. But they also do everything else here. The smoked meat, the amazing range of offal — lamb brains and sweetbreads, cow-​heel for the West Indian customers, whole sheep heads for the Indian and Arabic clients, tripe, the salt-​marsh lamb, the plantation pork, the Label Anglais chickens, the ridiculously cheap and delicious game, the unusual Greek Cypriot prepared joints (Mykonos rolled pork with feta and herbs, anyone?), the Spanish cured meats, the Portuguese black puddings, the whole Iberico hams… the home-​made Turkish and Greek sausages (as well as everything yoou’d normally expect) the East European specialities (this is Haringey!).and the butchery skills which is the main point. These guys will do anything you ask them to do, and know how to do it– something that is sadly lacking in many modern British butchers.

My first time I visited this butcher it was out of this world and also an recommendation from a friend. I had too come along way to this butcher but worth every penny spent, i purchased the greek/​cypriot sausages (Shetalia) they came them fresh to order and are absolutely delicious worth every penny thank you. I will be going down there again soon but won’t take me as long as I will know where i am going.

I’m moving away from Green Lanes next month and the thing I’m most sad about leaving is Baldwins. I’ve never had a good local butcher before and it’s been such a treat to have this one on the doorstep. They’re incredibly well stocked and knowledgable with produce from all corners of the world. They’re not poncey or crazily overpriced (I’m talking about you Meat N16). They’re welcoming and encouraging and they’ve inspired me to try cooking all sorts of bigger cuts of meat as well as answering all my novice questions. We’ve made rabbit ragu with meat from Baldwins as well as squab pigeon with cherry sauce, herb crusted lamb, Sunday beef joints, lamb shoulder rogan josh, duck liver pâté, turkey mole (with a whole jointed turkey which served an entire Mexican Christmas party) and baby back ribs to serve 7. We had to buy an especially big pan for those.
They also sell cheap organic free range eggs, award winning manchego cheese, loads of delicious looking Parma hams and chorizo as well as good store cupboard essentials (the tomato purée in the red tin with the swan on is lovely) and special treats like panettone. Thanks Baldwins! It’s been an education and a joy.

I was first introduced to Baldwins Butchers around 3
years ago when I simply had enough of buying cheap disgusting meat from
supermarkets. I now buy all my daily
meat from them like chicken/​turkey fillets, fillet steaks, chops, and their
amazing homemade sausages especially their Hungarian sausages which have a nice
spice to them.
Now that summer has arrived, I am buying even more meat
for my weekly BBQ for family and friends, their souvla and souvlaki cutting is
perfect for traditional Greek/​Turkish BBQ’s along with their homemade sheftalia.
I also love a normal BBQ with T-​Bones steaks, Burgers & Sausages.
Their staff is really friendly and helpful if I need something
specific for a dish. I sometimes purchase my meat from their shop, but lucky
for me I get my meat delivered to my door. So my conclusion is that the meat is fantastic, juicy,
tender, fresh, and affordable with the luxury of being able to get my meat delivered to my
front door. I have written this review to share my experience and
because they deserve it. Thank you Baldwins Butchers for making mine and my family’s
food experience exquisite.

We are a Mediterranean restaurant with a Turkish influence. When we started our restaurant the main aim was to supply the best quality of food for our customers. Finding a good supplier is essential for a restaurant and good suppliers can help bring out the best of Chefs. This is exactly what has happened since we started working with Baldwins. All our Steaks and Lamb meats are matured meat and the chickens are corn fed. I have to admit good doesn’t come cheap but for us it is all about standards and Baldwin has been amazing with supplying us with some of the best and Andy is a great guy to speak to and explain what intentions you have for your business and menu and he will share his unbelievable experience with you and give the best advice. Our customers are delighted with our dishes and I get a joy of watching all our customers’ faces as they take their first bite and look at eachother as to say this is amazing and this is why I wanted to write this review as a thank you. Baldwins Butchers is, for me, one of the gems of Grand Parade, and a temple to those who enjoy good (meaty) food. They have all the usual stuff you’d expect from a quality butcher: nicely prepared cuts of lamb, pork and beef, rabbit, chickens and a selection of steaks, burgers and sausages. In fact, the sausages deserve a special mention. Made on the premises, Baldwins carries a formidable selection ranging from italian-​inspired Pork and Fennel, to the laced-​with-​leek-​and-​chilli Welsh Dragon, to intensely-​herbal (Cypriot) Pastourma, to my personal favourite, the (Hungarian) Süto Kolbász a blend of pork and beef, laced with paprika, and absolutely delicious on a barbeque. For the budding Hugh Fearnley-​Whittingstalls among us, all your offal-​eating fantasies can come true at Baldwins. Lights (lungs), Fries (balls), Tripe, various types of liver and kidneys, pigs ears, pigs trotters and sheep heads are all available for purchase. Don’t know how to cook them? The friendly staff will (probably) be able to help you out with a recipe or two the owner used to be a chef. For those seeking something unusual but less terrifying, a variety of game is also carried in season from Pheasant to Partridge, Wood Pigeon and Quail. Add to this a fridge crammed with multitudinous items of delicatessen including Hungarian salami, a rack of exciting looking pickles and chutneys, boxes of duck eggs I could go on all day, but I am wasting valuable time that you could be spending eating delicious meat that makes the supermarket stuff taste as plasticky as the packaging it’s wrapped in.
