Battersea Library

Lovely library with helpful staff and a good selection. I love that they have a 24hr drop off slot so when you can’t make it during opening hours you can still return a book. I once was sure that I was due a late fee but they counted it as if I had returned it the day before as I dropped it off in the morning before they opened. Another time when I was trying to hunt down a book for book club the very helpful lady working that day called a different local library and asked them to pull a book off of the new release shelf (these are not available to reserve normally) and hold it under my name, as the other 40+ copies were out on loan. I did have to listen to a mini lecture about how book clubs shouldn’t all do new releases and can’t expect libraries to have enough stock ( Unilocal book club take note) but that was fair enough as she was going above and beyond, and this isn’t the only time that staff have done that for me here. I often go in for a specific book and find my head turned by a really interesting display so they are getting me to read more, different books in a subtle way. I really should visit more often.

This Library is small in size but bright and has a nice open layout. Not sure about the selection since I don’t frequent any other libraries not sure what to compare it to.
The staff were helpful but the woman who attended me was a low-​talker. I couldn’t hear a damn thing she was saying. oh well, she was nice.
It was high tech in there as far as checking out a book or renewing a book. I have not used any other services but i’m pretty sure theres much more that they’re offering than what I’m writing about.

And they are so high-​tech! I was late returning a book last week, so they emailed me with a reminder and a link to renew my books online! So easy and so convenient!

For a small local library, this place is really quite cool. I always liked the vibe of this library, it’s «split», if you like, into two parts — the reference library and then the main library.
The reference library is nice and quiet, a perfect place to research, study or read. The staff are helpful and the surroundings make you feel your in the inner sanctum of old newspapers and manuscripts — I really like the heavy old wooden interior.
The main library is much more modern. There’s a great selection of books and you can use the internet here too but I much prefer reading in the reference library.
Overall, a great place for books. I used to love coming in here to read and reflect, a brilliant local library.
