Good fish and chips for descent price. Wife thought oil on fish tasted funny. Small place. Takeout cheaper than eat in.

Love the fish, hate the soggy fries, still I always come back when I’m in London, prices are good for the location and the portions. Service has always been friendly… They have a good offer with F&C plus salad and drink for 10 pounds, you get a smaller fish but that’s fine… really like the cod…

There were fish, yes and there were chips, yes but put them together and you get the worst Fish and Chips at Ben’s. It’s lukewarm on both the fish and the chips. And the batter is soggy, not at all crisp and no crunch. Add a squeeze of lemon, vinegar to the plate and it’s even more sloppy to eat. The cashier even told me that this is the way that fish batter is supposed to be, soft for fresh fish otherwise it’s frozen fish that’s being served. Hmmm, I’ve been to the north where there was fresh fish and crunchy batter. Save your time and go to Fryers Delight. Now that’s a fish and chips shop!

I was craving London fish & chips so I walked over a mile to check out Ben’s. The guys running the place were super friendly, but sadly the fish and the chips were all soggy. They served me immediately with a large cod and chips from the glass case. I would have happily waited for a piece fresh from the dryer in the hopes of the crispy fish I was craving. The batter had a slight taste to it(possibly cayenne?), which was nice but the sogginess is hard to get over. The tartar sauce is a bit slimy also. Sadly, I wouldn’t eat here again.

We stopped in here after getting off the hop on, hope off bus tour. Walking in I realized right away this would not be the most amazing fish and chips of my life. The food: We had one order of cod fish and chips, and one order of haddock fish and chips.(£9.90 for each) Both were deep fried but not to the point that they were crispy. The fish was OK but not very flavorful. The chips were barely warm and their ketchup was not your standard ketchup. It was more of a ketchup /sweet & sour sauce hybrid. It was light red in color and very runny. The beverages: We order 2 cokes which the menu labeled as bottles but we received cans. The ambiance /décor: Extremely basic and dated. They have flag posters on the walls you might expect to see in an elementary school. The service: Our server was short with us at first but warmed up slightly when we asked for the bill. Overall, not very good fish and chips for the price.

It was good for fish and chips but then again fish and chips are not that good.

Decent fish and chips — not amazing, but good and affordable. I came here for lunch on a Saturday and, when dining in, they give you a table and a menu. I ordered the halibut and chips for about £9, and it took about 10 minutes to come out. The fish itself was huge, moist, and decently flavorful, but not the best I’ve ever had. Same with the chips — good, but not amazing. Overall, a good fish and chips and I was satisfied enough. 3.5 stars, rounded to 4.

On our way to Covent garden from the British museum, we paid a visit to this restaurant because I was curious to try fish and chips at a highly rated restaurant. Also because I wanted my friend from Switzerland to experience authentic fish and chips! When we arrived at the restaurant, I felt a bit unsure because it looked a bit tatty from outside. But once I got into the restaurant, it was clean, much to my relief!(You can’t judge a book from its cover!) The staff were kind and polite. The portions were fantastic. It was also delicious and well cooked. The meal itself was not too heavy nor oily for fried fish. It was good to experience my first fish and chips at Ben’s! Thank you!

Fast food esq fish and chips. Still very good but don’t expect a pub style restaurant. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Avg meal: £10−15

Read good things about Ben’s when I did my research back in California. Everything good people said was true. My wife and I had the haddock which was huge and delicious. Very soft and tender on the inside and crisp on the outside. Talking to the friendly staff indicated that this was due to the good quality fish, good quality fryer and the use of nut oils.

Exactly what I expected to find in London– Fried cod with proper chips. Pretty cheap too.

Cool place, quite cheap. The fish was huge but didn’t correspond to what I was expecting. I ordered the haddock fish and chips and it wasn’t smoked haddock like I am used to have at Poppies near Liverpool street Station. The chips weren’t so good and I had to ask for the tartare sauce even though it was written on the menu it was coming with the fish.

A little late on the review but definitely recommended if you are in the UK and looking for fish and chips. Had the battered cod. Tasted so fresh, crispy and not too oily. The chips were cooked perfectly. I want this in the States.

This place was awesome. In my mind before I ever went to London, this is exactly what I had in my mind. The fish was awesome, the fries(chips) were so good as well. The Unilocal map was off so we couldn’t find where we were going. It had us about 1 block away and as the owner was trying to tell me where to go, man I was so lost. I could just give him a landmark. So he came out and walked to where I was at to guide me. That was 5 star right there. Then we got there and asked him to give us the popular dishes and boy those fish and chips were freakin amazing. I dont have much to compare it to other than some quick spots I found, but this was by far THEBEST!!! If I ever come back to London, this will be my first stop for sure!

Tried this place for the first time today, and they are definitely worth a visit. Firstly, prices are much better that the nearby alternatives, secondly the food is good! The fish was cooked fresh, which did mean a bit of a wait but I’d rather that then something that’s been sitting under a heat lamp. The fish was soft and flaky, and the batter was light, but for me it was the chips that stood out, they tasted great and are standard proper chip shop chips. I’ll definitely be back here as it’s so close to my work!

I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service here. It took about 10 — 15 minutes for the food to come, but they battered and fried the cod fresh, they fried the chips fresh and it was all awesome.

This is an awesome addition to the local fish and chips scene! Ben’s features light breading, fluffy fish, and non-greasy chips.(Beware: One bite leads to another; I probably ate more than I should!) It has an extensive menu, featuring multiple varieties of fish and chips as well as meat pies and sides. Service is fast and friendly. Eat in or takeaway. My only criticism would be that they didn’t seem to have ketchup(at least, not readily available.) But then, I’m American. :-) And there was certainly plenty of malt vinegar.
