Set menu was nice and cheap for lunch, but I think we must have hit a bad day for the staff. Once seated, we got starters, and they were solid. Obviously reheated, but had flavour in them.(Calamari and Bacon & Potatoes) After that it all went a little odd. 15 minutes of empty plates were accompanied by the three members of staff talking over us in hurried tones. Something had obviously gone wrong with the POS or something similar, but to be speaking over my girlfriend was a bit odd. The food eventually arrived, Chicken Ceasar and Penne Chicken Arrabiata. Chicken on the ceasar was nice, and the chicken in the Penne was scarce to say the least. Slow, nearing rude service, for okay food, but at a solid price. Beer and a glass of wine were 4 and 6£ respectively.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in London. The food is delicious an there is a great choice. I’ve only ever eaten from the set menu but there are so many options to choose from and it’s such good value why pick anything else.

Visited Bistro 1 at 75 Beak Street in London with a tour group. Although we didn’t have the choice of any item from the menu(1 pre-selected entrée was served to each of us), we were served pan-fried chicken escalope, served with mashed potato and red wine sauce for our entrée. It was delicious! For dessert, we were served Banofee pie which was like a hybrid between a tiramisu and a banana pie. Simply wonderful! Highly recommended!

Cheap, cheerful and — if you get there at 9pm on a quiet weeknight — lovely and peaceful, perfect for a low key romantic dinner. The food isn’t lip smackingly amazing but is very tasty and very cheap, with good veggie options and nice puddings too. The staff are always super friendly and the whole package makes for a really nice dining experience. It’s nice to know that you can get a good meal for a tenner 5 minutes walk from Oxford Circus and I’ll always recommend Bistro 1 to friends.

A great place for a cheap and cheerful lunch; three courses for £9 in central London is pretty exceptional and whilst the menu is an odd mixture of classic French, mediterranean, middle eastern and a few more besides, the portions are generous and the food always good. Waiting staff are always friendly and cheerful, and actually seem to welcome visits when younger guests are in tow. A real hidden gem.

I’m surprised by all the good reviews — i really didn’t like this place! The seating was cramped and we were seated behind the till, next to the walkway the waiters kept brushing past nearly knocking us out of our seats and then not apologising! The service was poor and the waiters were abrupt, my ginger ale was flat, they didn’t bring us water till halfway through our main, they brought me the worng starter(and had actually written it down wrong even though he remembered as soon as i said no i didn’t order that). My friend’s sea bass clearly looked nothing like seas bass and more like some thicker fleshed white fish. Usually, you get what you pay for but i really dont think we even got that! Needless to say we didn’t pay service and wont be going back.

Bistro never fails to impress. Despite the fact that it never really looks anything special, even the most sceptical people smile and relax once they’ve sat down. We were in the Old Coffee house and then my boyfriend decided we should get something to eat — he doesn’t know Soho as well as me so it was my choice where we went. Choosing a cheap but nice restaurant for four hungry guys(including my boyfriends brother who I had only just met) seemed like it was going to be tough — and it would have been without Bistro.(Wow, I just sounded like one of those annoying advertorial things, didn’t I? Sorry about that. Won’t happen again.) Basically, for £10 you can’t go wrong. Two brilliant course of anything you could hope for(stick to the mediterranean stuff, it’s their speciality) and you’ll come out feeling full and happy. I prefer their fish cakes to anything else on the menu, but they are quite heavy so it’s not the best choice if you want to go out dancing afterwards. I’d avoid the beef bourginjon though. It’s not their best dish and i was disappointed with it. There was a whole table of happy faces and everyone enjoyed their dinner. The staff are fun and the vibe of this place is great, even if you do feel a bit like cattle sometimes — they really wedge you in here. If it looks busy(it always is) then double check how long it’ll be for a table. We only had to wait five minutes and they even gave us all a small glass of wine to drink outside while we waited. Bistro is brilliant. A really great place that all of my friends love. And how can you not be pleasantely surprised when the bill is less than £20 a head for two course, with wine? Brilliant.

Yesterday, I was walking around Soho, looking for a mediterranean restaurant i knew about to have lunch, but i suddendly found this bistro and decided to take a look at the menu. They had a GBP7.90 deal and the food seemed rather nice. We went in and we were amazed by the quality of the food. For starter, we had sardines and calamari. As a main, salmon and swordfish. Then, the desserts: cheesecake and crème caramel. The food was absolutely delicious and I couldn’t believe the price. We also had a bottle of white wine and we paid 27 pounds between the 2 of us. Amazing! definetely great value for money. The service was also good, so we decided to leave a good tip!
