Brady’s is one of those classic spots that have been around forever and will probably be around forever. Family owned and operated, filled with love and good food and regulars who come all the time, it’s hard not to be charmed. Nautically themed and well lit, it’s easy to find a table. The service is fast and friendly and I’ve never had a bad meal here. But on that note, I’ve never ordered more than one thing here — the fish and chips. Hot, tender, with a bunch of sauces that come with. Oh yes. It may be a little too expensive, especially for the area, but it is worth it no doubt. Also, they make a hell of a good dark and stormy. Holy hell, the love that goes into that drink is insane, probably the best I’ve had in London. This spot is tucked out of the way and can be a little hard to find. But make the effort, you will not be disappointed.

I went here for an event and I continuously drank Dark & Stormies throughout the night… a very good and dangerous cocktail since it doesn’t taste like alcohol at all. We got a chance to try their jumbo cocktail shrimp, salmon cakes and smoked salmon crackers, all incredibly fresh. We also ordered their fish and chips and I’ve never had such amazing mashed peas before. The fish was a bit too oily but overall the food was delicious and I’ll definitely want to come here again properly if I’m in the area.

Situated on a little turn off on the bridge, its a hidden gem tucked behind The Ship pub. We went to the bar launch and sampled a few plates of seafood that was brought around. I had a dark and stormy which is a Kracken rum with ginger ale cocktail. We started off with huge oysters with 3 diff types of dressing. Then a plate of peeled tiger prawns served with a dip came out they were very tasty and large with a tiny bit of the tail left on which made it easier to hold. A plate of small fishcakes came out made with salmon and finally a beetroot smoked salmon served on rye bread. These combinations came out a few times so it was a lovely evening of canapes, wine, beer and cocktails. Looking at the prices and location i will definetly be back to dine there.

At first sight this is a trendy, upmarket, clean, light, medium-sized, seafood restaurant with New England-style décor; complementing the forward march of gentrification of Wandsworth Town accross the Swandon Way to the riverside. Take a closer look at the modern British style menu and speak with the mature Brady couple who run the place, and in fact this is a longstanding, very well-organised local bar-diner that was in Alma Road and moved, but still sources its fish and seafood from various quality UK fisheries and smokeries, mostly directly. And what’s more the prices are much fairer than you might have expected for this style and quality, with starters at £4.95 and gorgeously crisp and fresh fish and chips for either £9.95 or £11.95 for a large portion with more textured than usual mushy peas. The beetroot smoked salmon on rye bread works very well and adds a bit of adventure. The tiger prawns had just the right amount of shell left to hold them at the bottom and dip them in garlic mayo etc. The highlight for me was the most fantastically juicy large oysters from West Mersea, which are best swallowed with the fresh lemon or shallot vinaigrette supplied(than overwhelmed with tabasco). And I think they’re best quashed down with a half of Whitstable Bay stout; in fact the choice of well-kept keg and cask beers are another unexpected extra joy of this place. The cooking is all grill or fry, which offers an honest simplicity; the fact that this may rule out having one of my favourite seafood dishes on the simple white menu(pan-fried squid) was soon forgiven!

I kept walking by this restaurant and not trying it. When I did stop by, I was amazed at the food. I had fish and chips which were so fresh tasting. I also did enjoy the great service. They even have blankets if you get cold sitting outside. I will be back and tell everyone to go!

Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages. This place is awesome! You can sit in the beer garden when the weather is good and the food is sublime. The chips must be triple cooked or something — gorgeously crunchy and the fish is perfect. To be honest I never thought fish and chips could taste this good. Another highlight for me was the mackerel pâté. Try it out!

You can’t make Fish & Chips any better than what I(we?) know and love from the seaside towns of England and Brady’s knows this. It’s not pretentious, over the top or expensive. What you get excellent, fresh seafood battered or grilled in a relaxed and small restaurant down the lovely old york road in Wandsworth. The 5 dips were all excellent that accompanied our meals. I had grilled plaice which was lovely and the more traditional battered cod and haddock were equally good with big portions :-) And finally, luke, the owner is such a delightful character everyone should meet. When I asked him if anyone has asked him to batter a Mars bar he replied: «No, never in 23 years. Shall I nip to Sainsbury’s and grab a couple for us?» Great fun was had and it didn’t cost the earth. I’ve finally found my favourite chippy as they do take-aways too :-)

Brady’s turquoise façade calls to you as you walk down Old York Road from the train station on your way home. ‘Eeeeaaat fish and chips tonight. Don’t cook. Eeeeaaat meeeee.‘ So, on Friday(appropriately) I stopped by. This chippie’s shtick is that it’s owned and operated by a single family and has been for years and years. You have to appreciate that. At least, I appreciate that. The interior is clean and welcoming, and the front waiting area, while small, was comfortable and offered up a paper and a magazine for customers to peruse while waiting for their takeaways. The front area is separated from the back, so diners who are eating in won’t feel as if they’re being creepily watched by takeaway customers. The cost of the takeaway, however, was quite surprising, and the prices associated with the eat-in menu were even more so. Over £7 for a small cod and chips and £9 for a large to take away is a bit steep. And, let me tell you, the portions didn’t exactly justify this price either. I assume Brady’s reconciles the price-to-portion discrepancy by insisting that it cooks everything to order. But, if I’m honest, I didn’t notice much of a taste difference between it and a regular old chip shop. Brady’s runs daily specials at reduced rates, so perhaps if you opt for one of them, you won’t get as much of a shock when you receive your bill. The starters available while dining in are supposedly unmissable(so says Time Out, at least), so maybe judging Brady’s by its takeaway service is a bit unfair. I’ll return to dine in one of these days…
