Don’t miss dropping in on this cool importer of eastern African artifacts if you happen to be strolling Notting Hill. Dolls made of beads, jewelry from broken down and melted cookware, even a handwritten Bible from the 16th Century(if I recollect that right) for a mere £6,000 — but oh what a neat thing to see in person! Bibles aside, they have some other showcase pieces without any Western influences — huge tribal sculptures and wall pieces. Most of the items here are extremely high-quality antique pieces. There are also colourful toys that local children have constructed from rubbish.(We could take a lesson from them in reuse and recycling and creativity!) The shop keeper is super-friendly, and more than willing to answer questions and explain those extra details about pieces that make them so endearing and appealing. The owners go on buying trips to Africa every three months(even invited my friend and me to come along — though warned that it’s a pretty rough excursion), so the merchandise and assortment is ever-changing… who knows what their next impressive find will be!
