Really excellent neighborhood curry house. Menu has a meal for two for £23, which includes: 2 appetizers– Lamb tikka– grilled tender with the right amount of spice. Onion bhaji– large and crisp on the outside, however could have used some dipping sauce. 2 mains– Chicken tikka masala– tender chicken with some of the best masala sauce I have had. Very rich and with a hint of spice. Perfect with the naan. Lamb jalfrezi– also good sauce and included vegetables. Abounded actually eating the chili peppers. Side vegetable– Cauliflower– I digest the actual name for this dish, but tender cauliflower cooked in curry spices. Peshwary naan– oven fresh with crisp outer edges and a soft center. Rice– no complaints here. The staff took pride in their freshly made food. The waiter recommended the«chefs special» next time as the dish cooked for the employees. He has very considerate and made sure we enjoyed our food. Also the place was byob. If in the clerkenwell area and looking for a low key good deal curry, I recommend this place wholeheartedly. Can’t wait to return.

What a lovely Indian, a little gem, when I say little, I mean it, there’s only about 6 tables in the place, the reason I found this was it was on Tastecard, so that meant 2 for 1 on starters and mains. The location is great, just next to the famous Electrical Olive Oil shop… The staff were super friendly when I booked up and when we arrived, the table was waiting for us and the prices in general were cheap anyway without any discounts. They also do BYOB, which is perfect!

I thought this place was just ok. I ordered the lamb«rogan»(could be misspelled, going from memory here) and it wasn’t as flavorful as I had hoped. There was nothing wrong with it, but there just wasn’t the«explodes with flavor in your mouth» aspect. We also ordered naan(just fine) and samosa. The samosas were small(just in case you’re used to the US version which seems to be getting bigger and bigger and bigger!) so order a few extra — they were very tasty. Bottom line — Indian food in London should be AWESOME. This place didn’t quite reach that level for me. If you’re visiting the Shoreditch area, give this place a try, but compare it to a few other spots just to make sure.

Café Tiffin is my quick, inexpensive neighbourhood Indian takeaway in Clerkenwell. Their vegetable sides at £3 each, which is a steal — plus it means you can have a few flavours without paying like crazy. It’s often quiet, so orders are made promptly, and you can often find discounts(e.g., here on Unilocal,or they do Tastecard). My personal favourites include daal masala(as I search London for good daal dishes, this one isn’t bad), chana masala, and their chicken korma(which as another reviewer also noted is quite sweet, but I’m learning that’s a very London phenomenon). The service is absolutely lovely and they may be the most polite people I’ve ever been served by in London(consistently, too… which I can tell you because I kind of go here a lot). They also have delivery via Hungryhouse and likely others, if you’d rather).

I live right around the comer from here so I visit quite often. It is a small place hidden off the main road. The first time I was here I ordered the tandoori chicken. It was perfect. The flavor and spices were spot on. The naan is a little thicker than normal, but I don’t mind. It taste great. My complaint with this restaurant is the sweetness of their curries. Any dish I’ve had that is prepared in a sauce is like eating candy. The butter chicken was so sweet that I couldn’t eat it. I lived in India for a while and never experienced this. So if you don’t want diabetes, stick to food from the tandoori. It limits what I can order here, but what I can get is always tasty.

I was on an adventure for Indian food. I hadn’t had any in London yet since coming to the city and I was going to get some. I checked out a spot on Unilocal that was in the neighbourhood and went to find it. Only… it was closed. No! I added hours and went to find another spot in the area. It had closed early! No again! I was about to give it up but gave it one more shot with Café Tiffin. This is a small one-room Indian restaurant tucked away down a side street. It’s kind of cute in that very spare way. The place was empty when I came in and there was one man behind the counter. He jumped to his feet as I walked through the doors. It was Ramadan and the guy apologized right off that back for not being totally there while he was fasting. I saw this first hand when he gave me completely wrong change back(missing about £1.20) but fixed his mistake quickly when I pointed it out. I ordered my staple of Chicken Tika Masala and Garlic Naan. It was semi-annoying that rice didn’t automatically come with it and I had to order that separately but that’s OK. The food was good, Garlic Naan was hot and flavorful and the tika had giant pieces of chicken that I liked. It was actually sweeter than I was used to normally but not in a bad way. Just different. Overall, I’d stop back here for more food again. This time it wouldn’t even be such an adventure.
