I came here with someone who lived locally, and I think it’s such a lovely community project. The offer classes and groups to local children and adults at subsidised prices. Their program is particularly popular in the school holidays. The organic gardens are for everyone’s use and upkeep here, you can even grow you own vegetables!
Some of the activities: Gardening for adults with learning difficulties, Spanish for children (only £3.50 a session) and Salsa for women with free crèche if they need it. If you think you’ve got something to offer and you’re looking to serve the community, they take volunteers!

Community garden open to the public. The land was snatched from developers by the local community and transformed into a green haven. The community centre runs a children’s playscheme and classes for children and adults, and the football pitch is for hire. Especially useful for learning about gardening and vegetables, as it has its own allotment areas and the staff are usually around to asnswer any questions. Can also volunteer and get fit! Foxes and frogs abound.

The Calthorpe Project is a lovely little green space only 5 minutes from the bustle of Kings Cross Station. There is a community centre, basketball hoops and a childrens playground, replete with colourful murals, but it is the gardens that are most attractive.
It is a great place to relax in the summer, just to get a little peace and quiet. Although a popular place for lunching with local workers and students, it is easy to get your own little space to take a bit of r n r for yourself.
There is a pleasant little trail to follow, and it is also a great place to relax with the papers on a weekend.

The Calthorpe Project is a community centre offering valuable activities for children and adults, but my main interest is in the lovely gardens. Everyone is welcome during daylight hours and it’s a real oasis of calm, just off busy Gray’s Inn Road and close to King’s Cross.
On summer lunchtimes the garden is full of workers with sandwiches, but at other times they’re usually fairly empty. It’s been carefully planted and the most has been made of a small space by dividing it into different areas.
There’s also a floodlit sports pitch (marked for netball and five-​a-​side football) which can be hired.
