Charing Cross Theatre

Cute little theatre in the arcade, short walk from Charing Cross station. Went to see Piaf, brilliant show. Sat 3 rows from stage in the middle. Sound was good and view was great. Think the ladies’s loos need fixing though.

Charing Cross Theatre is a nice little venue close to the Thames which reminds me much more of a small town community theatre or a high school auditorium rather than a theatre in the middle of London. The show I saw there was quite… amateur hour. I’m not sure if it’s always like that or if they do some really decent stuff there. The acoustics aren’t great and the theatre does seem quite shabby. It’s tiered seating which is good but they also have bench seats at the side near the front of the theatre and a balcony up above. I’d say if you can sit on the benches as far away from the stage as you can get that’d be better than sitting on the balcony, even though balcony prices are more expensive… usually.
The restaurant upstairs is nice but it does get very busy and it’s quite slow so be careful if you rock up hoping to grab a quick bite before a show! Overall it’s a decent theatre, just not what I expected for an inner city London theatre!

I often find it very hard to choose between 3 and 4 stars and this place would be one of those venues I would want to give a ³¹⁄₂ star too.
A lovely little theatre, just under the arches under Charing Cross station and one to keep an eye on as they have a lot of shows on at various times in the year. There is often a main show which runs from a few weeks to a couple of months and then a new one moves in, and then they may also have a late night show on after the main show too (you would still need to buy tickets for this too).
There is also a bar and a piano bar which is often frequented by singers and performers from various walks of the theatre life.
The theatre itself is small but has a very good view wherever you are. The seats are all facing forwards and the tier up to the back. So no restriction on view, just gets a little further away.
With regards to the calibre of shows that are on it varies dramatically. My advice is that if there is a show you are keen to see, so go and see it but be aware you may not be seeing a high quality show. Don’t get me wrong, some great shows and great performers often perform here but it is also a place for newcomers and experiments.
So those are my thoughts on the Charing Cross Theatre!

I like this teeny weeny theatre.
It is under the arches, right under Charring cross station, so you can expect some rumbling from the trains overhead… this actually added to the atmosphere on our visit as the show was Lost Boys, and is set in WWI, so the rumbling trains seemed like distant gun fire…
Good good:
* It is small, but that means everyone can see easily
* There is plenty of leg room
* The loos weren’t disgusting (I normally hate theatre loos!)
Less good:
* The ice-​cream isn’t amazing
* The aforementioned train noise… I think if it was a different production, that would be really annoying.

This is a great little theatre hidden away off the Strand. I only recently discovered this theatre and they seem to show short run performances about every 4 – 6 weeks.
They have a bar which also seems to sell food and the drinks were quite reasonable for central London, £7 for glass wine and half a pint of Stella.
Know I’ve discovered this hidden gem I look forward to seeing more plays here.

Most of the shows at Charing Cross Theatre seem to be smaller, lesser known plays rather than the big, classic ones. I have been there once but have looked at programmes of theirs loads of times and there are some interesting sounding shows in a mix of genres.
The theatre itself is quite nice and has a bar and a restaurant inside. It’s not that big-​there are several rows of seats and a small balcony, but it’s quite a nice sized intimate place.
Over all nice theatre, and good access from the tube.

The venue does lack ambience, and is essentially a long room sanwiched between the trains and underground, so expect to hear some rumbling.
The show I saw was very funny and extremely cheap so I was more than happy.
