Dropped in here for Friday drinks… but alas we were too early! They don’t open til 5. So we hung out upstairs at Camino and ate all the croquetas while we patiently waited to be granted access to their extensive cava menu downstairs. Downstairs is dark and lovely… cave-like! The glass floor gives it some extra oomph. The Friday happy hour of 2 for 1 cavas is definitely a deal. Sadly though, the kitchen was closed downstairs so no more croquetas for us! Reommended!

I really enjoyed this place, great atmosphere and drink/food. We met for the happy hour and had 2 for 1 champagne and wine followed by some delicious tapas. I had black hooved shaved ham(duh!) and we shared the garlic shrimp and a slice of machengo. Everything was great, will totally be back for a bigger meal but its thumbs up all the way. BTW its a little tricky to find, don’t get frustrated and make sure to go DOWNSTAIRS in the cellar its gorgeous down there.

Great find. A few steps from St Paul’s and through an unassuming door you drop a flight of stars into a hidden gem. Once in the vaulted rooms, it’s very cozy, not loud but good music. The food is great — a wide selection of tapas at a great price 4 – 5 plates fill two people — and I’m not a small eater :-) And to go with the food is a great beer and cava selection. Try the«beercelona» — it’s brilliant. Will definitely return or recommend.

What a great little place, very cozy, not too loud, it would be great for a date. Lovely tapas and some good wine. I only wish that they would train their staff to know more about the wines and what works best with what food, so that«I don’t know, I’m not Spanish«is not something that you hear in this place. Because of that — 4 stars, it would have been 5 otherwise.

I’m really torn about how to review Cope de Cava. It’s the cava bar below Camino, which I love, and has great food and great drinks(though the drinks menu is slightly more limited when you’re in the cava bar). I went with a group of friends for someone’s birthday drinks and the service was so bad we had to have the automatic gratuity removed. We had a nice comfortable table booked for us, and were able to order our first round of drinks almost immediately. All but one drink came quickly(the remaining one took another 8 minutes or so)… then we ordered some more drinks and food. Everything was delicious, the problem was getting it. We did get a bit of attitude, though… For example, we ordered a plate of charcuterie that we realised after about an hour or so hadn’t come. We mentioned it to the waitress, who asked if we wanted to order something else… but didn’t say what happened to the charcuterie. The manager nicely agreed to remove it from our bill, though. Yes, that’s right. They were going to charge us for the charcuterie that never came, until the manager was *kind enough* to agree not to. After our first drink refill, the waitress never came back to let us order more drinks. Even with food — which we were ordering quite a bit of — she just didn’t seem a fan of stopping at our table and letting us order food, or bringing us food, or bringing us anything at all. Another waiter got involved at one point because we just couldn’t get anyone to let us order food. Basically, the food and cava is A++. The service, however, was a constant failure. I would chalk it up to a big party but, really, there were only 7 of us.

Move over champagne, cava’s stolen my heart! Tucked down a Blackfriars lane, in a beautiful underground location, is a place that claims to make you think twice before you reach over the cava to get to the champers. ‘Cava to rival champange?’ I hear you cry. I’ll admit I was sceptical too at first… but the variety and quality on offer here blew. Me. Away. They have a fantastic range of white, rose’ and red cavas(that’s a new one on me too) on offer here that would see even the snobbiest of wine snobs giving their glass a generous nod of approval. Don’t worry if your knowledge of wine stops at ‘red or white’ though, you’ll find yourself in good company here as the staff are warm, friendly and happy to help you navigate the delicious looking menu. Each dish is also helpfully paired with a cava suggestion. We had tapas on this visit, as the cava was our main aim but it was some of the best tapas I’ve had in a long time. The charcuterie(slices of cured meats) was both varied and moreish and everyone at our table fell in love with the fat, juicy olives marinated in lemon and rosemary. Even this was perfectly paired with a cava suggestion which not only complimented the meal but was equally complimented BY the meal itself. Clearly, Copa de Cava is a product of passion. I can’t wait to go back and sample something from the main menu!
