The crown and Anchor has an excellent selection of drinks, a great seating area outside and the staff are quick to serve and friendly. Inside can be a bit dark but has enough area to get cozy in the winter. You cannot ask for anything more for after work drinks. I imagine most people come here after work or before or after a meal at one of the Indian restaurants on Drummond Street. It’s sad that there is no beer garden here but then again you probably need to head out to Camden for one.

Surprisingly nice pub right near Euston in amongst all the Indian on offer. It’s a pretty standard pub menu, burgers, sausages and the like. Lots of meals for under a tenner and not impossible(though not always easy) to get a table. Overall, a solid burger and a nice selection of beers, and a buzzing atmosphere make this a nice place for a drink and a catch up with friends!

I’m down in the Euston area a lot for work and am always looking for decent pubs in the area. Before my most recent trip I was trying to find a place near our hotel where my colleagues could have lunch and a mini-meeting(and maybe a wee cheeky pint afterwards). After a quick search on Unilocal and having a look at their website I decided we should try out the Crown and Anchor. My colleague phoned to book a table just to make sure we would have space and the staff were very accommodating. This good service continued while we were there too. By the time we arrived at the bar after journeying down from Glasgow we were all hungry so decided to get straight to lunch. There were plenty of options available on both the bar’s main menu as well as special lunch options. I decided to go for lentil and parsnip soup with a small cheese toastie while 2 of my colleagues opted for a pork and wild boar ragu which sounded excellent. We didn’t have to wait to long for food and while it was decent none of us where blown away. My soup was good but a little under-seasoned(people are just too scared of salt these days…) and the cheese toastie was trying to hard and had an off-putting amount of mustard on it(to be honest I’d have preferred none…) The ragu was deemed quite tasty but not quite living up to it’s promise. In the end we didn’t have time to indulge in a pint while we were there but I did notice they had a decent range of both draught ales and bottled beers as well as plenty of other drink options. Also in the bar’s favour were the reasonable prices. Our bill was just over £50 for 5 meals and at least 2 soft drinks/coffees each. Overall I quite liked the Crown and Anchor, I’d maybe only give the food 3 stars but it’s a 4 on all other counts. I’ll definitely consider going back when I down in London again.

Despite what others have said my ramble and I had an enjoyable and relaxed evening here. We spotted the place en route to our choice of restaurant the night before and decided we would give it a go. The other members of my party smoke so like every other night we sat outside on one of the small round tables. We wandered over to the bar and ordered some drinks, part of my bar also orders wine by the bottle so it’s hard to work out the costs, I had a Camden Hells lager(when in Rome etc.) but I have to say it was fairly unremarkable. We had someone who preferred not to drink and would normally have the staple J20. These are not served here but the woman behind the bar made a concoction of orange and cranberry juice with mint sprigs and plenty of ice. It was deliciously refreshing and very kind of her to go to that effort. We ordered food, 1 sausage and mash, 1 fish and chips, 1 slow booked British short rib and 1 cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. As the woman put it ‘I’ve reserved you a seat inside to eat because one of your plates is as big as the whole table, I’ll come and get you once it’s all ready’ and she did. She revered a table inside, scared off anyone that tried to sit there(it was busy, tube strike etc) and brought out 2 plates and 2 trays of food. It was delicious now I’m not gonna say out of this world, I had a burger for crying out loud but it was a pretty good burger very tender and served with the best kind of bun — brioche, fries were served in a tin mug and my whole meal served on a metal tray — hipster. I ordered another drink, cocktails this time and most things are gin based. The staff particularly are very accommodating. As our food had just arrived she told me she would bring it over and I could pay later. I was quite shocked as this doesn’t happen when I’m from let alone in central London. We ate our food, moved back outside afterwards and had a coupe more drinks. If I am every in London again I will hit this place up and I suggest you do the same!

I love this pub. Its your typical local but with a clean london edge. The staff are so friendly and the music is never too loud so you can actually have a conversation. Outdoor seating on the footpad and the large window/doors open up durring the summer so it has a really lovely feeling about it. The food is tastey — typical pub grub and priced reasonably for the area. The only down side is that it can get very busy after work on thurs/fri — but it’s usually ok to hop in.

This pub came out to be our standard place to get a beer on our trip to London, especially due to the lovely intereior, the nice staff and the really awesome Shankar Indian Pale Ale. I never thought it would be possible, but the British convinced me to their craft beer — I haven’t dranken an outstanding beer like that in a while — if ever! For those who don’t like ale they have a good czech pils named Kozel as well. I liked the cosy interior, especially because it is a decent mixture of traditional London pub atmosphere and modern elements like colourful tilings on the wall, fresh flowers on the tables and kind of a curtain out of spoons decorationg the bar. The whole staff was very kind and helpful. All together a nice, quiet place whith the right backgroud music(Frank Turner — that is what i’d imagine in a place like that! Just perfect!). Besides the bathrooms are flawless and there are a few outsinde tables .And all British pubs are smoke free. Wonderful! The prices for the drinks were like any other place in London — around 4 pound for a pint. The only thing I can say about the food ist, that we thought it was too expensive and therefore dined somewhere else. Dear anglophone reades, please write me if you find any mistakes, I haven’t written in English for quite a while!

We had a terrible experience at this place. I went here with my dad and two friends from Italy who were eager to try fish and chips on their trip to London, so we all ordered fish and chips. Not only was the meal expensive, but we were all left bloated and I personally felt sick after the meal, the food was very heavy and the fish was of the poorest quality. The service was also atrocious, we were truly shocked at how the waiter treated us and it was embarrassing to take my Italian friends and father to a restaurant with 1) terrible food and 2) with shocking service. My pockets didn’t enjoy the experience much either. I highly recommend you don’t visit this restaurant.

Food served on cold plates. Cold tinned carrots in roast dinner. Potatoes not cooked. Beef was cheap cuts. The gravy was nice though. Desired beer not available. Reggae music put on at blast level 10 half way through eating. Don’t bother with this place.

Lovely long bar, pretty decent drinks range for beer lovers(their cider selection generally leaves a lot to be desired), the same M&B Castle food that you’ve come to expect from all these distinctive chain pubs, and a decent bunch of lovely bar staff who for the most part make your visit to the pub an enjoyable experience. On weeknights the place can be hectic, but arrive there for a Sunday lunch or Saturday afternoon tipple and you’re likely to not have too much trouble finding a seat. There isn’t much else that can be said about the Crown and Anchor, except the toilets are horrible.

Fairly nice pub with cider on tap but one pint plus 2 pints of larger knocked me back about £12.75 which is pretty expensive even for central London. The food is also wildly expensive(£10.50 burger… come on) but the menu looked really appetising. Too bad the kitchen was closed so I couldn’t actually try any. This is how I ended up in a kebab shop…

Have had a few bevvies here in the summertime, sitting outside on the benches in the sun shine! Not a bad spot, away from the hustle and bustle of Euston St and very close to the lovely Indian restaurants, which is why I have had beers here: Pit Stop to the food!

Stop #3 — Euston Square The Crown and Anchor won the nomination for our 3rd stop(and also it was the only one open at the time) so we gleefully piled in. Word of advice: You are entering Arsenal country now so it’s worth double checking who they are playing and what colours the opposing team has. I didn’t do any of this and apparently Arsenal was playing Norwhich(whose colours are green and yellow) and I was niclely wearing a yellow polo shirt(it was the CIRCLELINE crawl) and a green undershirt. Why does this matter? Because as I walked in a truly hulking brute of a man grabbed my collar and ripped open my jacket, exclaiming(and I quote) «Bugger, there aren’t even any numbers on this shirt!» Turns out that saved me from who knows what(along with the incredibly confused look on my face) and I was allowed to get a pint in peace. Oh yeah, the pub. It’s quite nice. Not very big but screens for the football and a high bar staff to bar space ratio means service is a blur. In the space of my assault, everyone else had drinks so I had to catch up quickly. Drink of choice: A half pint of London Pride.

This is my very local pub and i have to say that i really like it. Its cosy and nice has a good interior(not long since doing some changed both inside and outside) and love that In a sunny warm day one side of the pub opens up so you sit inside but kind of outside, nice! Otside have for some nice places to site to and its lovely and sunny as its on the«good» side of the road :) the food has also had a good wamping up lately and is yummy. The chicken dish and fish pai is lovely and the Lemon posset an beetroot brownie is so yummy. Im a coctail or vodka drinker so i can go anywhere for a drink but friends that i have brought say they do have a nice selection of draft or bottled beer and ciders. The mix of nice and mixed music, lovely, chatty, helpfull and good staff just makes you feel so welcome and comfertable. and you will end up staying way longer than you first intended to im sure. I do all the time at least. Ohh and they have bottled Coke, jippiiiii wich is one of the best thing ever so much tastier than the plastic or dispencer stuff.

A perfectly good pub with very good food. We had the fried anchovies, the salt and pepper squid, and the fried black pudding. All were great. The ales were so-so and ended up sticking with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

I went to the Crown and Anchor after a curry at Ravi Shankar on Drummon Street, with about 20 other people who were at the same conference as me. We’re all archaeologists and we know about pubs(trust me). The Crown and Anchor served us well. 4 hand pumps of ale(Doom Bar was £2.80/pint — not bad for this area), several Belgian beers on tap, several ciders(Gaymers Pear, Aspells, and Westons Organic still) and good looking food(I didn’t eat there, but was assured it was tasty). Some of the tables and chairs had seen better days, the décor had been ‘trendified’, but we liked it enough to go back the next evening. It didn’t seem old-manny to me — maybe it’s changed hands since the last review?

Admittedly a bit of an old man’s pub, but there’s a decent selection of cider and ales and the food is worth a look, although a little on the pricey side.

Inside this biggish pub you find the usual dark wood, this time combined with uncovered bricks. Quite cosy and friendly. Not very special. The three handpumps offer Fuller’s ales. Unusual nowadays, the ales are served in old mugs(those with a handle). Delightful! Nice menu. There’s a sign at side of the bar saying, Please do not stand here: We bite. (No old drunks sighted.)

When you’re in the Euston area and Postively 4th Street is shut and you need to get your new boyfriend into a pub asap, this is not a bad place to head. Friendly atmosphere, dark but not unfriendly furnishings, bitter(you learn that’s essential very quickly) and lots of old people getting pissed. Worth a look in.
