Another café that leaves me a bit puzzled. The place is really quite nice. The staff is friendly, they playing some lovely Bob Marley in the morning… which is just the right way to start the day. However, the coffee and the croissants are really no good. I would love to come back, because its not a bad place. Pretty peaceful and friendly, but I just wish the quality of what they serve was a bit better.

I’d love to give it more, but Daily Grind is just a solid three stars. The coffee is ok, as are the croissants. The best thing they have going for them is an incredibly upbeat and friendly staff, but it does always worry me a bit when you stop into a café first thing to find it completely empty! It is off the beaten path and possibly more of a lunch/afternoon spot, but it would help if there was a bit more buzz in the place. It’s cute and quiet and as I said, the staff are fantastic but there’s nothing else really to shout about!

This place is a nice quiet alternative to the chain coffee places on Upper St. The coffee is ordinary and the food is fine. The staff is sweet and they have a nice open space in the back and free wireless which was connecting very well when I was there. The only problem was some woman had the poorest café etiquette ever and took a business call for an hour and was SO loud. Come-on people! The Daily Grind could benefit from a bit more ambience – maybe some good music. But if you are looking to chill out for a bit, check some email and have a cup of Joe and a light bite, this place will do you well.

The Daily Grind is a quiet hidden café behind Angel Tube station, behind the York pub. The cafes in this area are usually very busy, and look out on the street. This quiet café is always half empty though, as few know its location on a little side street. They serve the usual range of coffees, teas and sandwiches at more reasonable rates than others in the area, and in a more relaxed environment. There are some really good baked breads, pastries, tarts and brownies to be had here, and some seriously large croissants. Its a good place to get a takeaway breakfast latte. I like this café for its quiet atmosphere, and often come here to get a bit of work done. Its the perfect ‘away from home’ office, allowing you to concentrate, but still central enough that you can go for a short browse through the shops or meet a friend after you’re done.
