Four years ago, when selling one home and buying another in the same area, we took a slight risk. We knew an estate agent personally, and he worked for Dexters. Now, we’d not heard much about Dexters(estate agents for south and south west London — ) — we’d seen their shops and their for sale and for let signs around. However, it can be risky employing someone that you already know and drink with for such an important sale and purchase. However, for us it worked. Because he was keen to impress, and nervous about disappointing us, we had loads of people through the front door to view ours, and he didn’t try to sell us a property totally unsuitable — the vast majority of properties we viewed were exactly what we described(4 bedroom or 3 bedroom + study, around £350k). It’s not his fault that the one property that was not as described was the one we bought(3 bed converted bungalow — I still love this house)! Service was friendly and efficient, and we never felt we were subject to a hard sell. We dealt with a number of people at the Hampton branch of Dexters, and whilst they all looked young enough to now be dating my daughter, they were always professional.
