For me the best fish and chips in a town. Fish is fresh and very tasty. I’m notka huge fan of fish and chips but from time to time I need to have one. I will come back to try calamari

I agree with the reviews for this place — this is some of the best fish and chips that I’ve had in London! The fish is really creamy, the batter crispy and not too greasy(for deep fried food), and the chips are fat and thick. I’m often here for a quick carb pick me up, they do cheesy chips, which is an old school time favourite of mine, and I love dousing them in vinegar and eating them in the square around the corner. Portion sizes are great, I always go for the small chips, because a large portion is just too much for me. At £1.90, this is also a complete bargain! The greatest standout for me is also the vibe, the restaurant is really lovely and clean, well decorated and fresh, and the staff are just so friendly and approachable. It’s easy to have a conversation with them and I really feel like I’m welcome.

While we were venturing around different parts of London we came across this place and decided to stop and try it. We both ordered the Cod Fish with chips. They were absolutely delicious! Very fresh and tasty. I would definitely come back here again!

I’ve been in this place in September 2015. The restaurant itself is a simple one, not very charming but functional. It’s a classic fish ‘n’ chips shop ran by a very friendly macedonian owner. I really enjoyed the food. We had an haddock with chips and it was tasty, not at all as strong-smelling as I thought it would be. A photo of the menu is attatched, as well as one displaying some stickers on the door from the Government department charged of evaluating the hygene(the restaurant scored 4 out of 5). Be aware that there’s a relevant difference in price between the take-away formula(around 7£) and the service at tables(around 10£). The owner remarked that before taking the order however, so the service was quite fair.

This is our second visit to London and I’m so glad we found Fish Bone so close to where we are staying in the Fitzrovia area. We just found the best, most reasonably priced and least pretentious fish and chips place in London. Portions are on the huge side. I was not able to finish eating a «regular» size portion of cod and chips, and this is after walking around the London Zoo all day and having nothing to eat, but a black coffee that morning. It still tastes good the next day! The fish was fresh and the batter was amazing. Nice and crisp. You can sit and eat either inside or outside(weather permitting) or get take away. We have a 10 month old and a 3 year old, since it was getting to be their bedtime it was nice to have the take away option. It doesn’t get much more authentically British than this fish and chips place. Service was fast and friendly. Best fish and chips in London. We’ll be back!

A little bit further out from the centre(closer to Regent’s Park) compared to Gig’s(which I gave four stars to) but I’d say just edges it for me. Smaller and not as pleasing on the eye as Gig’s, Fish Bone has its own charm. Perfectly cooked fish n chips though you may find you’ll be waiting a little longer than expected as everything is cooked to order. I’d give Fish Bone an extra half star if I could to reflect I think they just pip Gig’s to the central London chippie crown!

Fish was wonderful — found this place late at night and grabbed their last piece. Chips were alright, nothing spectacular. Mushy peas were very, very good. Service was great, even though they were getting ready to close up.

After a recommendation from a friend studying in the city, I could not leave the city without some local fish n’ chips, which is why I literally walked 2 miles for this stuff. The location is inner city, brushing northern SOHO, with some separation from the traffic-heavy tourist areas. There’s no shame in eating a meal with yourself, especially when it was as hearty as this. Of course I opted for the main dish — the sit-down fish(cod) and chips, with an additional mushy-peas on the side and a coffee. Take note: sitting in is a bit more pricey than take-away. The interior is friendly, with plenty of sit-in space. I chose to enjoy my meal outside on the outdoor tables. By the time I sat down to eat, I was so depleted I inhaled the food in 10 minutes… and mind you these platters are not small. The fried cod and mushy peas pleased my belly the best, though the flavor could use more amplitude(I ended up using half the ketchup bottle). Fries were standard — homemade flavor, soft and average. All-in-all, if you’re wandering the area(perhaps SOHO) and suddenly become seized with a craving for fish ‘n chips, this is the place.

As a hungry university student, I’m always looking for cheap, quality eats near campus. When I’m craving fish and chips, Fish Bone hits the spot. For a mere £4.90, you can get a decently-sized piece of perfectly-fried golden cod and chips(for take-away), and for only £1 more, you can get a warm cup of mushy peas. The fish was cooked perfectly — flakey and golden. A great spot for lunch.

It’s hard to find a good fish and chip shop in London. Where I’m from(near the Norfolk Coast) every chippie has fresh fish brought in every day and they’re all excellent. London’s unfortunate distance from the coast means that is more of a rarity. Fish Bone though has excellent fish cooked perfectly, soft in the middle with a wonderfully crispy batter. It is hands down the best I’ve had in London to date. The chips are good too, although personally I prefer a chunky more potatoey cut. It’s an unpretentious place, with really friendly staff. The place is small but on a lunch break they have managed to fit in 6 of my colleagues without any trouble. I just wish it were nearer my house :-(

Great take away fish and chips and best priced for the area — often eat from here but always take away. Décor inside needs some updating!

Fish Bone is a local fish and chip shop. It has had some good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. I went at 6pm and the cod was already cooked so it was a little cold. The chips were pre-cooked and cold. I think the fryer could have provided food which was hot and fresh. However, the mushy peas were lovely. I suggest you eat at this fish and chip shop afer 7pm so that you get freshly cooked hot food.

Tourists, take note: the best fish & chip places aren’t that glamorous. They may be tucked down a side street and look questionable… but the fish(and low prices) are well worth the trip. Fish Bone is one of those places. Don’t let the plain exterior, little signage, or outdated décor fool you. The fish is excellent — fresh, hot, and homemade. We came for the take-away lunch special(which saved us a few pounds), but there’s a small park, with plenty of benches, right next to the shop, as well as Regent’s Park down the road. Large portion sizes for the price, made and wrapped right before us. Plenty of toppings, like salt and vinegar, and quick service. Definitely a must-go.

Well, this was a little out the way from the shops, but we enjoyed the rainy walk. It was very nice and quiet. Mainly locals and us, all four of us had a good time

Having gone upscale at Sweetings a few days prior, I was ready to find a great local Chippy that won’t break the bank. I walked past this hole in the wall fish and chip shop several times as it was near where I was staying. Unilocal to the rescue and I see Londoners proclaiming it one of the best Fish and Chips places around. Being an American, I prefer not to have skin on my fish. I just don’t get the whole skin concept. The batter doesn’t stick to the fish, and the skin doesn’t get crispy. It says rather slimy in my book, so I end up picking it off, and along with it all the tasty batter. Expressing my viewpoint to our very friendly waitress, she promised not to pass judgement on my incorrect assessment and had the chef prepare our fish without skin. Now keep in mind it was when they first opened, and perhaps during a lunch rush, this extra preparation may not be possible. I definitely got the impressions the chef was doing us a favor. For all I know it may have been the first time this request has been made. I had the large piece of Cod, which is politely called the«regular» sized cod on their menu. It was outstanding and may be the best fried fish I’ve had. Yes better than the £26 version I had at Sweetings, although that was Halibut and this was Cod. But doesn’t it really just come down to the batter? Fish Bone’s batter was outstanding. My wife felt that the fish got kind of greasy, but I had no problem devouring this beautiful piece of fish. Crunchy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside, a little malt vinegar and salt.; occasionally dipping in a little tartare sauce. This was piping hot and made to order. Don’t expect fast food here with the fish laying around. Most others that I saw come in, had phoned in their order ahead of time. There is very limited seating here and it’s mostly a to go spot. I made another great discovery. Their batter works great around a deep fried sausage. These are Halal Beef Sausages. It had the texture of a banger, so I’m guessing a little crème is added. Unlike Kosher, I don’t think Halal has an issue with milk products added with food. I could be wrong though. Whatever it was, it was a very tasty sausage and frying it made it even better. I wouldn’t come here without getting a side of those. So this should be a 5 star rating, but the chips just didn’t do it for me. Since the dish is called Fish and Chips, that’s kind of half of the meal. Fish Bone won some award for their chips as well, as I saw a sign posted saying Winner of the 2012 Best Chippy Chips Award. I don’t know, I found them kind of mushy. I don’t mind a lot of potato to my chips, but these had no crunch on the outside. They were good to soak up the Malt Vinegar though, so perhaps that’s their concept. To me they were average. But the fish and sausage was so good here, I still highly recommend Fish Bone. And at a very reasonable price too.

Dear Unilocaler, I can’t leave well enough alone. Feeling restless over Bank Hols, thought I’d write about Fish Bone. My college friend is visiting me from America, you see? Yes. Showed her my favourite London chippy, like Outkast, so fresh so clean, clean and fresh. Nope it is not Rock and Sole Plaice. So 1993, straight Ace of Base. Toff’s of Muswell Hill? I’m sure it’s great, but it’s not as chill. Gig’s? Poppies? The Golden Hind? If you go there after this, you deserve a spanked be-hind. Finally, what’s the other place, North Sea? Oh no you didn’t! Stay there, and don’t send a postcard please. All I’m saying Unilocaler is, you’re outta body and mind. If you ever visited Fish Bone and didn’t find it simply divine. So, lemme break it down, a little history. Of how much the joint means to me. Since ’09 Fish Bone’s been my haunt. And I highly suggest you make a quick jaunt. The dudes behind the counter know me very well. Always ready with a smile, a wink or some good banter: like hair, we gel. Yet always professional, knowledgable and very swift. You’ll never be waiting for dinner, which would leave most frowning and miffed. Upon exit, you’ll never feel un-sated or stiffed. And here’s why: under 10 quid for a filling dinner, what a price! Plus, like the main dishes, the mushy peas and all the ‘fixins’ are nice. As for me? Cod and chips girl, that’s my go to. And what I recommend to you. Sure they’ve got all the other extras and stuff. But please give it a skip, or I’m gonna call your bluff. You get so much food, cod perfectly fried and de-boned. I don’t think I could finish, even were I munchie’d and stoned. But on a most recent visit I surprised myself. Embarrassed is the better word perhaps, by my bottom shelf Behaviour, and let me say: Ordered a large cod and chips and like Sinatra, I did it my way. Not sure where it goes, maybe my toes? Or perhaps I can artfully hide my foodie-butt in clothes? No shame in my game, I can put it away. Hope my metabolism keeps up till I’m at least 50! But I digress. We were talking about fish: rock, sole, plaice, pike, cod, yes they do impress. Batter fried golden, crispy, hissing, hot and brown. Fresh cut chips, ketchup, squeeze that lemon, pour on the vinegar, and baby boy go to town. But only if you’re down, and now you are. Cause when it comes to food, you know this Rhymin’ UnilocalStar Would never lead you astray, or far. So Fair Unilocaler: If you’re near Warren Street Station, feeling the growl of hunger, annoyed. No time to be reticent or coy. Roll through that chippy on 82 Cleveland Street And the next day don’t hesitate to repeat. Only thing that’s bad about this place is the haze, That I see when I’m hungry and they’re not open on Sundays.

Yum! This is my favorite fish & chips place in London because it’s close to Regent’s Park(so you can bring your food there on a nice day) and because the portions are huge but the prices are reasonable. The staff is really friendly and nice and the interior was recently renovated(within the past few years) so that it looks a bit«fancier»(not 5-star, but less grungy than it did before). Everything I’ve had has been really yummy(cod, rock, and skate). The fish is fresh and the batter is light and crisp and airy. The chips are sort of weirdly chunky but some people like that. I like to generously douse my fish & chips with malt vinegar and I love asking for a gherkin on the side.
