Flowers East is the east London branch of what is deemed to be London’s oldest contemporary art gallery chains. There’a also a branch at Cork Street in Mayfair and another in Shoreditch and another in New York

Flowers East is one of three galleries In London, they also have a gallery in New York. The Gallery on Kingsland Road is very spacious. The main space is divided into 3 parts and likewise upstairs. Overall there is quite a lot of wall space and I find it a pleasure to walk around in as it never gets very busy, probably due to it’s location. They show a wide variety of contemporary art here. Whenever I have been here I have never been disappointed with the standard of work they exhibit. They have a little book shop to the right as you come in the door which sells some great art magazines such as Art Monthly and Modern Painters. The staff here always have a smile on their face.

If you find yourself in Shoreditch wanting to pay a visit to one of the many local contemporary galleries, Flowers East is your best bet. With galleries in London’s West End, and New York’s Madison Avenue this the smallest in the Flowers family. Entry is free, and the huge glass fronted building means you can peer through and see this busy gallery at work. Special mention should be given to the summer exhibition usually curated by a member of Flowers staff and featuring their best artists. Staff are very friendly and happy to assist you, and the gallery has a modest book collection of publications both from their latest show and artists they represent; of which include Tim Lewis, Patrick Hughes, Michael Kidner, Tai-Shan Schierenberg(to name drop a few) so quite a catalogue. Located conveniently close to Old Street tube station, and Hoxton Square this should be incorporated in your tour of Shoreditch. A new photo graphics gallery has just opened upstairs in the gallery space and promises to provide some sensational photo exhibitions so whether you’re into modern art or photography flowers East will have something to suit your tastes, and if you’re lucky enough to be in a position to invest in some art the clued up staff will take you to the comfortable viewing room to show you pieces that you may be interested in.
