Les Generator sont des auberges de jeunesse très décontractées et très modernes. J’avais essayé celui de Dublin qui était plus dans le style «industriel», celui-​ci était très coloré et toujours aussi design.
Le staff est très accueillant et les chambres très propres! Cependant je regrette de né pas avoir eu une petite lumière individuelle à côté de mon lit ni de prise de courant pour pouvoir charger mon téléphone pendant la nuit sans qu’il soit à l’autre bout de la pièce. C’est d’ailleurs rare que dans un hostel on né vous propose pas ce service!
Mais là où ça coince c’est dans la salle de bains: les toilettes étaient très souvent bouchées! C’est certainement la faute aux gens qui y jettent n’importe quoi, mais quand même. Ca craint!
Niveau confort, je n’ai pas à me plaindre, j’ai très bien dormi et tout était clean.
Pour le prochain city trip, je n’hésite pas, je retourne dans un Generator, une valeur sûre!

This place is pretty average without a serious concerted effort to be above average, despite all they offer. With a bar, a restaurant, a cinema, and a travel shop all inside, you’d think you landed a pretty dope spot. Really, this place takes hostel culture and corporatizes it, which to no fault of their own brings out the absolute worst guests. If you’re looking for a place you can come alone and meet people and have a good time, keep going. Coming with a few friends and don’t want to shell out the cash for a hotel room? This is a great place for you. The beds are relatively comfortable and the place is acceptably clean. The showers and bathrooms seem freshly refurbished and I feel like I’ve walked in on cleaning staff more than not. If there was one thing that truly bothered me, it was the nickel and diming for just about everything you may need, but didn’t have room to pack. There’s no towel or padlock rentals, just purchases for about £5 each. Checkout is an hour earlier than I would’ve liked (10AM) and if you need a place to store your bags while you await your flight or travel arrangements, get ready to shell out more cash. So while you come for the cheap room, staying becomes increasingly more expensive. I guess you have to pay for upkeep somehow, but it really doesn’t feel authentically «hostel».

Le lieu parfait pour séjourner à Londres !
Réservée avec deux copines pour terminer 2015 et débuter 2016, nous avons passé un très bon moment à Generator !
L’auberge est idéalement située à côté de la gare St Pancras (10 min à pied, à peine), les espaces communs sont très très sympa: bien décorés, conviviaux. Douches et WC sont globalement assez propres. Non on né mangerait pas sur le sol non plus, mais on n’a pas peur de se mettre pieds nus pour prendre sa douche et ça c’est déjà bien !
Côté chambres: rien à redire non plus, c’était propre et niveau confort largement suffisant pour dormir quelques nuits.
Le seul petit point négatif ira au petit déjeuner qui n’est pas fou, mais bien suffisant.
Bref je recommande fortement cette auberge, dont le personnel est très sympa au passage :)

Muy bien ubicado a dos cuadras del metro. Mucha gente joven y lugares comunes muy cómodos y prácticos. El bar abre hasta tarde y hay buenas cervezas. Los cuartos son impecables. Lo único malo es que las habitaciones tienen pocos enchufes y las duchas no tienen lugar para apoyar la ropa.

It was my first time using any hostel and when you’re traveling on a budget, this place was pretty reasonable. Perhaps it was the cultural barrier but i thought the people at night were a bit on the ruder side. The lockers not functioning well and the hostility, was a bit overwhelming because oh the stress from traveling.
Overall cleanliness of the place was okay but the showers we’re a bit of a nuisance since it was so cramped and there wasnt space for anything like caddies or towel racks.
The wifi was easy to connect to and pretty fast and the common room had a lot of outlets. The people was very diverse, some of them nice some of them stressed. There was a sense of security because there were so many guards around. For the price I paid, it seemed like I got what I deserved

April 2014, stayed here for a couple of nights by myself. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient, but maybe a little too fast for my taste. I couldn’t blame them though since there was a line behind me. The other times I stopped by when they weren’t busy, they were happy to engage in discussions about the area and London in general, since this was my very first time here.
The rooms were nice and clean, and even my dorm room full of hormonal college-​aged boys, wasn’t too bad. It was a great place to sleep off my jet lag because it seemed like the basement room I was in was just encased in solid concrete, rendering it dead quiet. It was a little chilly down there, but nothing that a warm shower in their spacious facilities couldn’t cure.
I opted to pay for the breakfast to be included, and that was actually quite nice. They had a part where you can have as much of this or that as you want, and with me trying to get a good start to my day before exploring the city, they really had enough for me here. All in all, I’d recommend the place, and even the area it’s in isn’t so bad. (I’m being «English» modest here — it was actually quite nice.)

This was my second time staying at a generator hostel. My first being Barcelona, that hostel was beautiful, CLEAN, and full of kind helpful staff.
So I was very excited to stay at a generator again in London!
Sadly was I mistaken. This hostel is the worst I have ever staid at, it is seriously unclean, they wouldn’t even give us clean sheets for our beds after we pointed out that they were stained, the staff is just rude to the guests overall. Don’t even think about misplacing your key because they will not be willing to help you in the slightest. And do not even get me started on the bathrooms.
I would give them less then one star if I could. The Generator is seriously disappointing, do not stay here.

This was my very first hostel to start off a European backpacking trip, and I’m glad t was. It was a terrific introduction to a new backpacker due to the fun and friendly atmosphere.
This was a great place to stay for the young traveler, including a bar and close distance to the tube station. The rooms were dorm style, including bunk beds. The first night my travel buddy and I stayed in a 4 bed girls room. We were lucky to have such great roommates.
I would definitely stay here again. There is an internet café within the hostel.

«Aurelie, pourquoi mes draps sentent mauvais?» J’avoue quand mon pote m’a dit ça –et que j’ai pu validé l’odeur très TRÈS bizarre de ses draps, je me suis demandée ou on venait d’arriver. Physiquement, je savais, à quelques pas de Russell Square, on était donc très bien situés pour notre we à Londres.
Mais ça mis à part, cet hostel n’a rien pour lui.
Le we ou j’y suis allée, les draps dans la chambre étaient sales, sentaient mauvais et heureusement pour nous on avait pris nos sacs de couchage, ce qui nous a permit de dormir sur les couvertures en nous mettant dans nos sacs.
Les douches communes étaient dégueulasses, on est tous allés se doucher en chaussettes. On est peut être passés avant le monsieur ou la dame du ménage (s’il y en a).
L’accueil était impersonnel: le generator hotel est géant du coup il doit y avoir tellement d’allées et venues, ils né se soucient pas trop d’être sympa.
Privilégiez un bon air bnb, je suis sûre que le rapport qualité prix sera 10 fois mieux!

Location is decent, rooms are clean and bathrooms are plentiful. Only drawback was the lack of sockets in the room. Expect to be sitting in the common area charging your phone.

Parfait pour un week-​end entre copines.
Parfaitement située, proche St Pancras International et Russel Square Underground. Très bon rapport qualité prix. Calme assuré dans le couloir la nuit. Propre (chambre, couloir, commodités, parties communes). Une des réceptionniste parle français (this is a good point)
Vigile à l’entrée super sympa accueillant de jour comme de nuit. Dans un quartier vivant. J’y retournerais volontiers.

One VERY early Monday morning, sometime during March 2014, the Baby Jesus smiled down upon my soul and gifted me with the privilege of getting my hands on the much sought after Kate Bush tickets that everyone was flipping the F out about.
550 Canadian dollars in the hole, I was the proud owner of 2 Kate Bush tickets.
I was going to London!
I love getting private rooms in hostels and settled on the Generator after much research. I booked a private room on-​line and the total came to 270 pounds for 4 days. Seemed like a fair price, but god god does that exchange rate sucked my willingness to live; that basically comes out to 500 Canadian bucks. Owwwiiieee. But FRIK IT, KATE BUSH, LONDON. IT WAS HAPPENING.
I emailed with the Generator before-​hand to ask a bunch of inane questions about the rooms and they were courteous and helpful. I also changed the booking dates a few times with them as well, and they were super accommodating and informative, they even kept sending me updated invoices! They take credit card info to secure the room and do not charge until you check in. Loved it.
Arrival: The Generator is suppperrrr central, but tucked away in a quiet side street. I opted to disembark at Kings Cross Station, and after a little confused wandering, I found Tavistock Road and was soon at the Generator sign, I walked down a cute alleyway and up to steps to the hostel. Where I met 1 of the 4 big beautiful Bouncer/​Security guards that man the door at all times during the day (2 out of the four always told me what a pretty lady I was/​complimented me all the time so A+ on the ego boost service these guys provided.) could come off as creepy, but their Caribbean charm was entirely endearing to me. After a certain hour into the night, security is then placed at the entrance alleyway and you have to show your door card to get in. It made me feel VERY safe and I loved the precautions and security level of the place. Especially as a woman travelling alone.
The room: Super super clean. Clean sheets, clean floor, spotless bathroom. I was on floor 3, room 318, and the end of their hall. The private room was tiny! I booked the room for 2, but actually ended up solo, so it wasn’t a huge issue for me. But be aware, there isn’t much room to turn around and relax in there with 2 people, and their suitcase (s) worth of stuff.
The room came with a bunk bed set, a bench and a private equally tiny «wet room» aka, a toilet and shower in the same space with no separation between the shower and toilet. I found that to be a delightful surprise. The wet room also came with a bombass waterfall shower head that had excellent water pressure and temperature. And there was a powerful ceiling fan that sucked out all the moisture and water from the wet room — by next morning, the puddle in the middle of the wet room was gone, and everything was dry. Plus, the door has a rubber stopper, so aside from anything in the wet room, nothing else outside gets wet.
The door to the room was a little sketchy, it has to slam to actually close, and there were a few instances where the door closed lightly and didn’t lock. And because the doors SLAM LIKE HECK, night time (and basically all the time) is loud. I am a light sleeper and had to buy ear plugs (they ran out of them at front desk sigh) so I could get a good nights rest from all the WHAMMING AND SLAMMING.
The food is meh, overpriced and mostly not worth your time. You can get a better deal elsewhere, or pop into the Whiterose literally across the street for some budget eats. I did however get the Generators their full english breakfast because it looked so good, and that’s the only thing I really liked. Their burger was run of the mill.
Overall, I really liked my stay at the Generator, despite staying at a hostel, I kept to myself and enjoyed the solitude and awesome level of service!

Perhaps you’re looking for Ryanair in hostel form. Well your search is over, because that place is Generator London. By this I mean that it’s cheap and cheerful in the first instance, though gets progressively more expensive when you want anything extra. Also the branding is pretty bright and garish.
I’m in two minds about how to rate this place, so let’s go through pros and cons.
The Good
— It was £15 for one night’s stay. Pretty excellent considering that on the same night I saw hostels charging £50 and more, and hotels charging around £100.
— It’s about 5 – 10 minute’s walk from Euston. Hugely convenient if that’s your access point to the city, and means you’re well connected in terms of transport to get around.
— The staff are cheerful and helpful.
— The place is huge — there is little risk of there being no room at the inn.
— Safety seems to be a big concern for the staff and management, which is reassuring. There is a doorman checking your room key as you go in, a lockable drawer under your bed, and instead of a wishy-​washy luggage room they have luggage lockers.
— They have a travel shop in the hostel where you can buy padlocks, adaptors, shampoo, towels, and various other necessities.
The Not So Good
— As I said, £15 is cheap but I can see how all the add-​ons would end up making this a more expensive option. For example there’s no towel rental, just the option to buy one for £4. Top tip: take your own. Also the luggage lockers cost between £2−12 depending on size and length of time. Extending check-​out from 10am to midday costs £5. And so on.
— The toilets and shower rooms smelled pretty bad. On the morning they stunk, one toilet was overflowing and the ceiling was leaking.
— It took me and friend a fair bit of hassle to get clean sheets for our beds. I think this was partly due to the fact that somebody else in the dorm had been sleeping on them, so not entirely the management’s fault, but still.
Overall staying here was fine and if you’re on a serious budget and aren’t too bothered about the standards of where you stay, go for it. I’ll be looking for something a bit nicer for my next trip though.

Can’t hate on the Generator. It’s in a back alley near Russell Square and Euston tube stops and a no-​nonsense security detail accosts you to make sure you’re staying there. I felt totally VIP. The reception staff, who welcomed me in after midnight, is delightful and waived my 5 GBP late fee. The place was immaculate and the bed was serviceable. Yeah, it’s tiny, but at 31 pounds per night in downtown London, I think we have to be reasonable in our expectations. My ONLY complaint is the creep in Bunk 1 who terrorized the rest of us, but that became a bonding experience for Alt. Japanese Dude, Chavvy Eastern European of Indeterminate Origin, and me. Man, did we have some laughs when she stomped off into the atmosphere (loudly, banging things, at 6 a.m.), finally ending her reign of terror. She probably won’t be there when you go, though.

Une auberge de jeunesse récente à deux pas de la gare de saint pancras. Au fond d’une impasse donc plutôt tranquille, impasse qui craignait autrefois dans ce beau quartier mais c’est fini. Tout le confort avec des sanitaires grands et très propres, des douches un peu ric rac mais ça passé :) un bar est également présent avec babyfoot et billard où se déroule des soirées jusque deux heures. Un espace restauration et un squat à prises de courant confortable, au combien précieux, les prises manquant un petit peu dans les chambres…

Gros coup de coeur pour cette auberge de jeunesse !
Je né savais vraiment pas à quoi m’attendre en arrivant au Generator et ce séjour s’est révélé être une agréable surprise ! Très bonne ambiance le soir côté bar et calme assuré aux étages pour dormir paisiblement.
Point positif: l’auberge est propre ! Toilettes, douches, lit… tout était nickel. Le Generator est aussi super bien équipé: salle de cinéma, salle pour se poser tranquillement avec son ordi grâce au wifi gratuit…
D’un très bon rapport qualité /​prix, je retournerai au Generator sans aucun doute lors d’une virée à Londres entre amis !

for a hostel its great. we were there on a trip with my dad and brothers. we had a room with bunk beds. it was super for the purpose at the same time the shared bath and toilet facilities made it posible for us to get up and out the door relatively fast in the morning, instead of the logistical chaos that can sometime appear when the whole family have to get up an shower etc. the place is bare bones but nice and well maintained.
the breakfast are relatively boring but its cheap and filling.
there are all the relevant amenities and they make lots of events for guests and party nights in the bar

Quel beau moment de passé au Generator !
L’hôtel a été complètement rénové en 2013. L’entrée de fait dans un large hall avec un bar et un nombre incalculable d’endroits pour s’asseoir: canapés, fauteuils, etc. La salle TV ressemble a un amphithéâtre avec de gros coussins pour s’installer. Juste a côté, il y a même une salle cinéma qui projette 2 films par soir a partir de 20h.
Un peu plus loin, il y a des espaces un peu plus privés pour 6 personnes séparés par des cloisons (idéal pour jouer aux cartes par exemple).
Et tout au bout de l’auberge, vous trouverez un second bar, plus grand, qui se transforme en discothèque de 22h a 02h.
Parlons des chambres, elles sont petites mais propres et confortables. Des toilettes et douches pour hommes et femmes sont présentes à chaque étage. Des compartiments en bas du lit sont présents pour accueillir les bagages (pensez a prendre un cadenas pour les plus prudents d’entre vous).
Le petit déjeuner n’est le meilleur que j’ai mangé dans ma vie mais il correspond aux standards d’une auberge.
Le personnel est a l’écoute et le service est agréable.
La chambre est a £26 mais pensez a vérifier sur le site web avant car, comme cette auberge grimpe en popularité, le prix pourrait changer.
Je recommande chaudement cette adresse pour vos escapades à Londres afin de vous loger a un prix raisonnable.

What a great I spent there!
The hostel has been completely renewed in 2013. You enter in a large welcoming area with a bar and plenty of space to sit on: couches and comfortable chairs. The TV room is like an amphitheatre with comfy pillows. Next to it, there’s even a cinema room with 2 movies played each night from 8pm.
A bit further, you’ll find more private space with 6-​people tables separated by partitions.
And at the far end of the hostel, you’ll find a second bar that transforms itself into a club from 10pm till 2am.
The rooms are tiny but clean, comfortable. You have men and women toilets and showers at each floor. You can put your luggage under the beds, compartments are available for this (don’t forget to bring a locker if you think it’s necessary).
The breakfast is not the best one in the world but it does the job for a hostel standard.
Staff is friendly, understanding and at your disposal.
FYI, rate for a night is £26 (with bed sheets but not towels) including breakfast. Review the rate on the website, as this hostel is being popular, it might raise.
I’d definitely recommend this place.

NOTE: They got renovated in the summer 2013.
We were the first inhabitants of our NEW 4-​person room (around 35 – 40 Euros/​night). We could still smell the paint off our walls. The room had 2 bunk beds, a sink, storage for each person, windows w/​curtains and system heater/​AC. The room was wayyyy too small for comfort. There’s about 3 feet wide walkway in between the beds to walk, so it was impossible for all of us to get ready in the morning without running into each other.
There were separate gender bathrooms. However, the shower rooms were still old. I hated how we had to hang our clothes and towel on a tiny hook outside of our stall so it wouldn’t get wet, but it ends up falling on the ground anyway — Yikes! I recommend bringing a small plastic bag to hold everything in.
Free breakfast was pretty nice: juice, milk, coffee, cereal, ham, cheese, bread, etc. You get one free drink at the bar too! And every night, they have some kind of event in the lobby/​bar.
Anywho, the three 3 S’s are pretty well here: safety, sleep, and sanitary (although the bathroom lacks a bit here). Workers are pretty chill too. What can I say. I have a soft spot for British guys with accents.

Sehr spartanisches Hostel, welches sich allerdings in Toplage befindet. Durch die vielen Jugendgruppen ist es hier natürlich nachts nicht sonderlich leise, aber das nimmt man in Kauf (ich zumindest). Die Securitys vorm Hotel sind alle ziemlich nett. Vom Frühstück rate ich ab, da es schon wirklich sehr schlecht ist. Direkt gegenüber ist allerdings ein Imbiss mit gutem reichhaltigem Frühstücksangebot.

Ich habe 1998 das erste Mal im Generator übernachtet und seitdem jedes Mal, wenn ich London war (was jetzt ca. 11 Mal war!!!)
Ich bin immer wieder zufrieden und komme immer gerne wieder zurück!!!
Man darf keine unglaublich großen Erwartungen haben, is schließlich ein Youth Hostel und kein 5 Sterne Hotel!!!
Seitdem ich ’98 das erste Mal dort war, wurden des öfteren Renovierungsarbeiten vorgenommen, was ich sehr positiv findein so einem Youth Hostel geht halt gerne mal etwas kaputteinige Gäste sind halt leider manchmal etwas rücksichtslos!!!
Das Personal is sehr nett und hilfsbereit!
Das Hostel wird in der Nacht und auch tagsüber bewacht, so das keine fremden Leute Zutritt haben, was ich persönlich sehr positiv finde!!!
Das Hostel is sehr zentral gelegen und befindet sich in einem ganz netten Stadtteilman kann viele Sehenswürdigkeiten gut zu Fuß erreichen!
Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen!!!
Als nächsten werde ich im kommenden Jahr das Generator in Dublin besuchen und bin schon sehr gespannt darauf!!!

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. The staff are rude and the guests are annoying; they blast a terrible radio station in the common room during the day. There is «security» patrolling the hostel 24 hours a day like someone important is here. This is the worst hostel I have been to and I have been to a good amount of hostels. It is Nazi Germany. I felt like someone was constantly on my ass waiting for me to break one of their ridiculous «rules». There are too many people staying here, you have to pay to use the computers and there is no free breakfast. The security guards constantly harass the people staying here. The only good thing about this place is that it is cheap but I would rather pay a little bit extra to stay anywhere else.
Worst hostel I have ever stayed at! Read all the reviews before booking here because most elaborate on how terrible this place really is. Please find a more accommodating place to stay, unless you like fascists.

Très bon rapport qualité prix !
Cette auberge de jeunesse est vraiment bien située (à 10 min de la gare de St Pancras et à 5 min du métro).
Il existe différents types de chambre, ce qui est vraiment appréciable: dortoir, chambre double ou triple La salle de bain et les WC sont communs. J’ai regretté la propreté très moyenne des WC (¾ étant bouchés) ainsi que le nombre assez restreint de douches.
Le generator dispose aussi d’un bar et d’une salle de déjeuner où il est possible de prendre un petit déjeuner à petit prix.
Je recommande pour ceux qui souhaitent voyager à petits prix !

This is one of the cleaner London hostels I’ve been to. I’m not kidding either.
Free wi-​fi as well. The rooms get really really hot, this is england, land of no A/​C.
free breakfast is nice and simple.
The bathrooms are okay, but sometimes they are out of order and have no hot water.
As for those who comment that it was too much for them, i’m sorry, its a hostel, what do you expect? there was a group of loud screaming school children when i was there. Its budget travel, expect a big subset to be young.

A 10 minutes à pieds de la gare internationale St Pancras, cet ancien commissariat caché au fond d’une cour abrite une auberge de jeunesse de 207 chambres.
Le décor est un peu futuriste, l’accueil est sympa et il se passé tous les soirs quelque chose avec des animations jusqu’à 2 heures du mat’…
Un bon rapport qualité/​prix, encore faut-​il avoir la chance de tomber sur de bons voisins de lit… et ce né fut pas mon cas durant les 2 nuits où j’ai tenté de dormir dans
un dortoir de 4 personnes sentant l’alcool et les chaussettes des 2 occupants très très fêtards, gros ronfleurs, mangeant des chips au lit à 4h sans aucune discrétion, se trompant de lit…
Les sanitaires étaient nettoyés régulièrement, par contre les robinets des douches fonctionnaient à l’envers :S
en résumé, si vous aimez faire la fête, c’est le bon endroit… sinon, réservez à l’avance une chambre simple ou double (il y a aussi des dortoirs réservés aux filles).
Le point positif, c’est qu’au retour il y a des anecdotes à raconter !

My short stay here was on a random weekend in June 2011. I was participating in a Travel-​Study program with my school and the program included a visit to London. The programme coordinators at Pembroke College (Cambridge University) arranged for us to stay at this luxurious hotel with many other vacationing travelers. Students in our ginormous group stayed in rooms that ranged from 4-​person rooms to 10-​person rooms.
The rooms are unkempt, the sheets don’t appear as if they have been changed and feel unsanitary. The community bathrooms are disgusting and poorly maintained. There’s a club/​bar downstairs whose DJ blasts NOW CD’s well into the wee early morning hours. I had a roommate whose floozy sexbuddy would sleep with him in his bunk AND us in our already crowded room. I guess these well-​to-​do parents of UC students don’t teach their little girls manners and class. My experience at the Generator London was mediocre to say the least. My stay would have been at least 3 stars had it not been for the majorly hyphy, teeny-​bopper UC crowd that I was with, and the overall shabbiness of the place. Also, the rent-​a-​cops standing outside the place are douches. They warn you to keep a low voice outside the premises for their are hostel patrons who are resting. Why don’t they tell the DJ to turn down the volume on his speakers? Some people are dumber than hell…
** The only place that beats this one in terms of quality of living and shadiness is the Rodeway Inn in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Es handelt sich beim Hostel Generator um eine günstige und sehr zentral gelegene Übernachtungsmöglichkeit in London. Super gelegen. Sehr einfache Zimmer mit keinen guten Betten, aber für kurze Nächte reicht es. Party, Party, Party mit vielen Nationen. Natürlich wird es erst sehr spät ruhig, dass man wirklich schlafen kann.

L’auberge est plutôt bien placée dans Londres, et y passer quelques nuits est toujours une vraie aventure. Retour en colonie de vacances, dortoirs et tous les aspects folko qui vont avec, sanitaires qui laissent souvent à désirer, repas qu’il vaut mieux éviter (à la limite le petit dej est pas mal), et un bar ambiance club de vacances… hors saison! Bön, tout ça pour dire, c’est un peu cher pour ce que c’est, mais finalement ça fait un séjour inoubliable!

This place is definitely for the young traveler.
The generator was my first hostel experience, so I went in expecting the worst, and I was surprised it was not as bad as my parents had warned. I stayed in an all female dorm with 6 bunks, and as I was traveling through Europe by myself, it was great to meet other girls to go out and explore with.
The dorm style bathrooms are awful, the bar here is full of creepy dudes, but the people are friendly and you get free breakfast and free wifi, so I would definitely recommend this hostel.
It’s London, so the value you get here is pretty amazing.

At all cost, please avoid. Well, unless you like waking up itchy throughout the night.
This place is dirty, loud, and all around miserable.

Très bonnes prestations pour une auberge de jeunesse.
Les lits sont propres, de même que les draps.
Les salles de bains sont nettoyées régulièrement et en bon état.
L’équipement des chambres et tout à fait satisfaisant.
L’emplacement dans la très huppée Bloomsbury, près du British Museum en fait un lieu de choix pour un séjour peu cher et de courte durée à Londres

Temper this review with the fact that I’m pushing 40. It was loud, teeming with teenagers, and generally chaotic. Sometimes the elevator worked.
The showers on our floor were broken. So, we had to traipse up or down one flight for showers… only to find them being cleaned and told to go elsewhere. Once we got a shower, the water was cold. Not exactly what you want when you haven’t slept the night before and you’re already jetlagged and annoyed by the amount of noise in the place. We were on the 3^rd floor and could hear the music blaring from the pub until at least 3am. No television, the only one was in the lounge and played nothing but MTV.
As for the beds, the bottom bunkbeds were so low you couldn’t sit up. So we sat on the floor. But there’s hardly any floorspace when you have 4 people and their bags. Two electrical outlets for all, and with everyone’s phones, computers, hair dryers, etc, it wasn’t enough.
Breakfast was cereal (when you could find a bowl) and toast. That’s it. Tea, coffee, milk, and bad orange drink. When I went to use the ATM it was broken. Just… nothing was acceptable at all. I left in a horrible mood.

Das Hostel reicht gerade so für ein bis zwei Übernachtungen. Es ist sehr schlicht gehalten, nicht gerade das sauberste und das Frühstück ist sogar für englische Verhältnisse ein Witz. Abgesehen davon, dass es nu Cornflakes, Toast und Marmelade gibt ist auch der Frühstücksraum mehr als unsortiert und nicht besonders sauber.
Große Pluspunkte sind allerdings das hilfsbereite Personal und dass es nachts permanent bewacht ist und auch tagsüber niemand reinkommt, der nicht dazugehört.
Für ein paar wenige Pfund mehr lohnt es sich allerdings ein Travelodge oder ein B&B zu nehmen.

I stayed here for three nights in July 09′ on a vacation to London, Paris, and Rome. First, the hostel is in a pretty decent location a short walk to the Russell Square underground station. There are also a few eating options nearby. Second, the travelers seemed to keep to themselves or their small groups, this was surprising considering a great majority of he people staying are less than 30 yrs old. Third, the all you can eat breakfast consists of cereal and toast, that was pretty lame.
It was a good time though, and I would probably stay here again.

Relativ günstiges und schlichtes Hotel für Backpacker! Das Frühstück ist kostenlos und sehr schlicht, eine Kantine und ein Pub vorhanden. Alles nicht Meisterklasse aber für Leute die in London übernachten wolllen und nicht stundenlang im Hotel TV gucken wollen eine günstige Alternative.
Die Zimmer sind bestehen nur aus Hochbetten und es gibt saubere Duschen auf dem Flur.
Zu erwähnen ist, dass selbst nach 23.00 der Pub noch offen hat, was man in London nicht so oft findet.

Très bien situé dans le quartier de Bloomsbury, à deux pas du british museum et à 2min à pied d’une station de métro, le generator hostel bénéficie d’un cadre plutôt sympathique. Commerces à proximité, centre commercial juste à côté, le quartier est assez agréable.
L’hôtel en lui même est énorme avec 5 étages de chambres, un rdc composé d’un bar, d’un self et d’un coin cafét. L’endroit est fortement visité, toutes les nationalités sont représentées. Douches et WC communs, les chambres disposent d’un lavabo qui permet une toilette très succincte. Les chambres sont meublées avec des lits superposés et des casiers pour les affaires. L’accès à l’auberge est sécurisé par un staff présent jour et nuit, ce qui est pas mal rassurant. Les prix des chambres sont corrects (j’ai payé 20 livres la nuit) avec PDJ inclu.
En ce qui concerne mon appréciation générale, je dirais que cette auberge de jeunesse est très dynamique, avec un bar fort sympa qui permet de né pas sortir à 10 km si on veut boire un coup. Néanmoins, les murs sont très très étroits et les fenêtres très très fines, donc ce n’est pas l’endroit rêvé pour dormir sur ses 2 oreilles. Je suis assez mitigée, puisque le rythme de chacun est différent et né correspond pas toujours au notre. Il y a peut être trop de passage, mais cela assure aussi une bonne ambiance.
Dans l’ensemble les plus l’emportent, notamment pour son emplacement dans la ville.

The Generator was my first stop on whirlwind trip of Europe. It was also my last stop when the tour was over 18 days later. I had a great adventure. I saw, heard, ate, drank everything! So among the many experiences, memories, and lessons learned during my journey I concluded that staying in hostels is not recommended for women over age 30.
You see, when a woman has lived a certain number of years she becomes accustomed to living and traveling a certain way. This was my first time staying at a hostel and because my trip was put together at the very last minute there wasn’t much time to shop around for a hotel and coordinate meeting up with my tour group the next morning. So off I went to London a little unprepared and a little too spoiled from my past experiences at such lavish places like Motel 6 and my friend’s sofa.
If you are over the age of 30 and have never stayed at a hostel before, this what you need to know:
You will most likely be the oldest person there.
No one will understand the concept of ‘being quiet because other people are sleeping’. Bring ear plugs.
The hostel bar is your friend, especially at happy hour. Don’t be shy, make new friends… however, 9 out 10 people you meet will be from Australia.
Be prepared to have to walk down the hall to pee or take a shower. My room was equipped with a sink and mirror so I could brush my teeth in my room.
Keep an eye on your things. The rooms have locks, but you may be sharing a room with 3 total strangers. I had a luggage lock to secure my things in a locker that was in my room.
Bring your own towel. You can buy one at the front desk, but don’t leave that towel behind if you are moving on to another hostel. (I finally learned this 3 cities and 9 euro later)
Breakfast is sometimes provided, but if you’re expecting bacon and eggs you’re only fooling yourself. Make yourself a little sandwich to go and wrap it in a napkin. It will come in handy if you should find yourself hungry while riding the subway.
Take advantage of the little perks. Not every hostel has laundry facilities, so if your socks need washing, please take care of it! The lobby area also has a wall of phone to call home if you get homesick. If you want to charge your cell phone or ipod there’s a secure locker where you can take care of that too.
Be a good sport. Chances are that you will have to sleep in a top bunk.
The lights can go on at any moment. Wear a sleeping mask to keep things dark while your room mates come and go.
If you’re really that miserable, go outside… there’s all of London to keep you entertained.

This was my first hostel experience. My initial reaction was that this place reminded me of a college dorm minus desks. You have bunk beds and «closet space» (aka lockers)
You also have the community bathrooms and there is no alcohol allowed up in the room area. There is a recreational room where they have computers/​internet access, but keep in mind that you have to pay. There is also a bar with loud music and a mini-​dance floor.
This place is also the meeting location of a lot of the European TOPDECK tours (which i did), so people who do these tours– you should definitely stay here the night before to ensure that you check-​in on time.
After two weeks of staying in several of hostels, this place was average. It gives you a secure place to sleep and shower, so i guess it fulfills all the requirements of a hostel!

Wer ein günstiges Zimmer, auch mit mehreren Leuten, in London sucht, ist hier gut aufgehoben.
Das Generator liegt sehr Zentral und alles ist mit der Tube gut zu erreichen.
Die Preise sind ok. Man sollte jedoch immer daran denken das es sich um ein Hostel handelt und das man in GB ist. Die Zimmer sind nur mit den Basics ausgestattet, Toiletten und Sanitärräume haben auch bessere Zeiten gesehen und das Frühstück ist ok wenn man einen Kaffee und Toast möchte.
Jedoch im Vergleich zu anderen Hostels und zu manchen Hotels ist das Generator noch ein gutes Haus.
Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit, Probleme werden schnell gelöst.
Wer günstig übernachten möchte und wegen London da ist und nicht wegen dem Hotelleben sollte vorbeischauen.

El ambiente es muy internacional, compuesto por mochileros, viajeros solitarios, grupos de amigos, estudiantes .
La decoración futurista de esta antigüa nave rehabilitada con muebles de colores y luces de néón suma un punto a su favor.
Ofrece habitaciones compartidas y para grupos pequeños, buenos desayunos y lugares de reunión llamados ‘Turbinas’, es barato y está bien situado. ¿Qué más se puede pedir?

À quelques pas du centre ville, c’est un lieu plein de vie où des jeunes (et moins jeunes) du monde entier se retrouvent en une sorte de petite communauté. Certes la déco est d’un goût très anglais, moderne et un peu froide et les dortoirs né sont pas du goût de tout le monde, mais si vous voulez passer un séjour à Londres pas cher dans une ambiance très jeune et conviviale, je vous conseille de passer quelques jours au Generator.

Rapport qualité prix: Zéro ! Vu le prix que l’on paye pour les services que nous avons c’est vraiment pas la peine d’aller dans une auberge de jeunesse, il vaut mieux prendre directement une chambre d’hôtel à ce prix-​là. Il est vrai qu’il y a des goûts et des couleurs pour tout le monde. Mais ce genre d’établissement né me convient pas du tout. C’est vraiment fait pour des jeunes (friqués) et qui n’ont pas encore passé leur période d’adolescence. Ceux qui né connaissent pas encore la Vie. Le plus désolant c’est le prix que l’on met pour ce que l’on a, c’est-à-dire plus de 80 euros la nuit pour une chambre de prison ! Oui, oui une chambre de prison: lits superposés dans un petit cagibi avec un petit évier et enfin: Douche et wc collectifs ! Non mais ho ! On a détalé comme des lapins le lendemain. Les couleurs bleu, orange et l’ambiance fashion victim nous fait détaller comme des lapins au petit jour. Mais finalement les mauvais reports n’ont pas l’air d’être accessible en ligne ! C’est chelou quand même… Peut-​être que j’écris pour rien mais au moins j’aurais fait la démarche de mettre mon avis qu’il soit bon ou mauvais. Alors faites attention, réfléchissez bien pour 80 euros, ce que vous pouvez faire avec: chambre propre avec sale de bains… ou chambre du Generator? A vous de choisi…

Si tu as 12 ans et que tu aimes faire du karaoké
Le métal, les couleurs flash et surtout le prix horrible pour une chambre de prison nous ont refroidi. C’est pourquoi on y est pas resté plus d’un jour. Enfin, déjeuner juste dans le bar où il y avait une fête la veille: c’est très bizarre.

Es uno de esos hoteles donde no suelen ir las familias sino la gente joven, suele estar siempre lleno de jovenes que están de vacaciones con el colegio por viajes de fin de curso o de carrera. Las habitaciones están muy bien con baño propio en su mayoria y a buen precio, las instalaciones bastante completas, destacando una disco-​bar ideal para tratar con gente nueva y pasar un rato divertido

Auf den zweiten Blick…
Ich fahre seit 5 Jahren mit Kindern und Jugendlichen nach London. meist sind wir im Generator untergebracht. Im ersten jahr war ich etwas erschrocken: Hinterhof, die Wämnde blau und orange, keine Schränke, sondern Garderobenständer im Zimmer. Doch inzwischen habe ich das Hotel sehr schätzen gelernt. Die Lage ist toll. In wenigen minuten ist man am British Museum und auch zum Piccadilly Circus kann man ohne Mühe Laufen. Das Essen ist gut und vor allem reichlich, was besonders beim Brekfast nicht in jedem Hotel so ist. Die Atmosphäre ist einfach toll und das Personal wirklich nett.

Parfait pour un séjour entre jeunes
Certes, l’orange et l’argenté omniprésent dans la déco rend parfois l’atmosphère un peu froide, certes le côté dortoir peut né pas plaire à tout le monde, mais quoiqu’on en dise, cette ancienne fabrique reconvertie avec style en hotel est absolument parfaite pour des jeunes pas trop pantouflards. Pas chère, vivant, proche du centre. A noter, pas loin, le Just So, un pub à la cuisine particulièrement réussie.
