Pretty good brunch! And reasonably priced. Flavourful Spaghetti and generous, fulfilling meatballs covered in lightly spiced tomato sauce and cheese. Add to that a spongy, springy and tender ginger cake with vanilla ice cream. One of the most surprising brunches I had in London so far. The calm and quiet of the place was really inviting to a nice non-rush meal. I’ll go again.

Colleagues took me to Giant Robot twice, and both times I found it a bit«meh»(even though I really wanted to like this place). First time I went for the burger, as I didn’t really understand what the rest of the menu was about. Well, the meat was nice, the burger itself was okay, but a bit small. The fries were just plain fries — most probably frozen ones. Second time we were a bit of a bigger group. Wanting to be a «good» I avoided the burger and went for the meatballs and ordered a salad aside. Meatballs were nice(meatballs in sauce — what was on the tin), but the salad was… well just a plain heap of extremely boring salad. No bread to suck up the meatball sauce, or even just give a bit of extravagence to the salad. Besides that, we actually had to wait 45min to get actual food, a colleague of mine ordered his food without pork and discovered pork in it after finishing, plates took over 20min to come out to the whole table — so some finished when others received theirs. I will probably avoid going there again, except to be social if my colleagues decide to go back — which I doubt considering the last fiasco.

«Giant Robot’s cocktails make people put out. FACT.» –The idiot And so started our race to get there on our respective dates on the same night in Farringdon. Since I am writing the review, guess who got there first? Anyhoo, I really liked Giant Robot for lots of reason. Like, when you go down the list of reason of deducting points off an establishments for misstep you can’t really find one except for the slightly weird toilets(the girl infront of me walked into the men’s by mistake) or the fact that despite my disdain for girly cocktails, I managed to find 2 of the most tropical fruit punchy cocktails I could get that evening. All 4 varieties of cocktail we tried were awesomely well crafted, well balanced and pretty alcoholic. I was happy with the price as well, it not being hyper expensive like some other places. With a slightly lounge-y feel on the sofas, it is no surprise that the idiot’s remark is more fact than factpinion. Then again, I’d definitely will be back with a group of friends as well…

I came here on a Thursday night with a friend for some good food and catching up. We didn’t make any reservations beforehand, but were delighted to find that the wait was only 5 minutes. There were empty tables outside, and beautiful weather(well, as beautiful as London can get), so we were seated outside without any wait. The menu is fairly straightforward, but the cocktail menu is something worth spending some time on. Each page has a unique design, and the selection of drinks is very good. I ordered the Lucky Chip burger and my friend ordered the sliders sampler. The burger was messy but very good — one of the better burgers I’ve had here in London thus far. The toppings complemented the burger really well and the brioche bun was spot on. With that said, and like others have said, the fries were hands down the best fries I’ve had in London. I would come back here just for the fries. They were that good. Usually I need some ketchup to pair with the fries, but that was unnecessary for these fries — as they were the perfect texture and taste. The cucumber lemon water was a nice surprise, and the coolness of the cucumber definitely didn’t go unnoticed. Overall a great place for a good burger & fries. Will definitely be back.

I have had Giant Robot on my list. For months. They caught my eye one day when riding the 243 toward Old Street. I liked the idea that I had no idea what the restaurant was about. But, after many failed attempts, Nida K. and I finally popped in about a week ago to give it a fair shot. We split a burger with french fries, and a cobb salad, thinking we might be at least half-healthy. We were right, except that the salad is drenched in a lovely ranch dressing(all seriousness, you can’t find enough ranch in this country!) and basically it was all so good that whatever healthiness there was was probably cancelled out. The burger was nice, albeit messy. The salad was fresh, and I loved the addition of avocado. The highlights though, were the french fries — the best I’ve had in London, for sure — and the cucumber lemon water, which was so refreshing. I’m very pleased that this was on my list and it turned out to be good, because I know some of the reviews are mixed. I definitely plan to bring back a french fry loving friend because they were truly great fries.

Because the restaurants within a 5 block radius were all closed and it started to rain, sadly not men, my friend and i ended up in here. they get 2 stars for: –being open at 5pm when no one else was –having a «royal with cheese» homage to pulp fiction? methinks, yes. –decent service –filling portions –great ambience and nice layout BUT with all these things, I’ve had better… so there you are.

I had a pretty satisfying experience at Giant Robot. Drawn in by the Diner-style boards and cosy interior and ordering a burger before I’d noticed the glowing endorsements for the butternut squash tortellini or the not-so-much 2 star reviews here, it all worked out rather well in the end. The burger was the stand-out: chunky, juicy, superbly cooked at medium. I’ve tried quite a few burgers of late(Byron, the Scene, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, various pubs) and this was the best I’ve had. The green beans were also well-prepared: crunchy, with just a drizzle of melted butter over the top. Yummy. Also excellent was the service: quick, very friendly and helpful. I was more than happy to pay the 12.50% optional service charge. The weakest part was the house red, which was pretty poor. Not quite undrinkable, but difficult to sip without squirming a little. The chips weren’t as bad, but for my taste had slightly too much oil. Another small quibble was a very small discrepancy between some of the prices that appeared on the bill and those charged on the menu. It wasn’t a lot of money, but on the principle that the prices charged should be those advertised, I asked it be changed and it very speedily was(apparently their computer systems were up the creek). Still, that burger, those beans, the excellent service and the cosy, US diner-style interior makes it a four star experience for me. I am certainly a fan.
