It’s a burger/​pub place, very tasty burgers and very friendly service. My wife and I did take-​away and everything was cooked perfectly. Our order was handled promptly.

The Grand Union is a fairly inexpensive bar with plenty of seating and average pub sharing plates. The indoor décor is surprisingly plush, but despite this you can’t quite forget that this is one in a chain of pubs.
The service can be quite hit and miss — on our last visit the barmaid put our order on the wrong tab, which led to confusion and a bit of a disagreement when we tried to pay up. The style is an odd mixture between table service and ordering your own drinks at the bar — so you’re never quite sure which to expect!
Overall not a bad place for after work drinks, but not the best.

Truly terrible service. Slow, rude, unapologetic.
Such a shame as I’d stopped by to road test it, to see if I’d like to come here for my birthday. But after an appalling experience I’ll never go back.
The nail in the coffin is when I asked the waitress «is it busy on Friday’s in here?» She shrugged and said «what? No, not really. I don’t know.» I said «oh I was going to book my birthday here, but probably not then.» Her retort, «yeah, no I wouldn’t.»
I then emailed the Grand Union to complain. No reply. Strange since I was replying to their email saying «Hope you enjoyed your reservation, we’d live to know your thoughts».
2 stars given for the really good veggie hot dog and the location.

The location of the latest Grand Union to open is actually rather beautiful — looking out over the newly revived Paddington Basin, it is an oasis of peace in amongst the hustle and bustle of Paddington.
The bar itself is colourful and friendly, with striking neon signs marking out the different bar and diner areas. I was impressed that they bake their own pizzas from scratch — and you can certainly taste the difference. The open kitchen area means that you can watch the chefs working which is a nice touch.
