Easily accessed on foot from the Broadway, Hammersmith Fitness & Squash Centre is just off Butterwick almost opposite the bus station. A short distance from the Novotel hotel in Shortlands, there’s parking for 6 members cars right outside the entrance.
The centre has a welcoming and modern reception area. Membership fees are low in comparison to ‘brand’ name gyms and there’s a discount for those on benefits. As well as a gym/​fitness area there is a sauna, squash courts and a dance studio.
The fully enclosed gym is well equipped with contemporary TechnoGym exercise machines plus there is a free weights area. A separate aerobics room featuring treadmills, bikes, cross-​trainers and plenty of televisions to watch is located next to the main gym.
Changing rooms are not salubrious at Hammersmith Fitness & Squash Centre and you drop in a £1 coin to secure a locker. The £1 is refunded when the cabinet is opened. The men’s shower facility is open space while women have privacy in individual cubicles.
A comprehensive facility, good for the disciplined — very few trainer staff are available on the floor, at a price in a convenient location.
