I wasn’t really blown away by this place I’m afraid. It’s a reasonably cavernous building in the smaller Devonshire Square, with some«outdoor» seating too. The staff were friendly enough, and very helpful. There was also a decent list of hooch — with the, now obligatory, craft beers. I ordered streak and chips with a side salad which, when it came, was pretty underwhelming. The steak was cooked well, the chips and salad were presented nicely but … I don’t know. It just all seemed to be a bit of a non-event. For the location and price I would have expected this meal to really stand out, and it just didn’t. The overwhelming vibe was that of a slightly up-market chain. I’m only glad that I wasn’t the one paying.

Love it! The décor & building is amazing and the waiters attentive and sexy! An amazing bar & restaurant beaming style… A perfect venue for every occasion! We were part of a large group and everyone was happy with the quality of the food… Absolutely tempting and appetising… Very close to Liverpool Station so easy transport links! Would recommend for everyone!

Arrived at the door, was told that they would check to see if they had space. With 10% occupancy, they had space and had successfully pissed a customer off before I’ve sat down. We had chicken wings to start and they were superb. Perfectly crunchy, well seasoned and the quality of the meat was clearly a by-product of good breeding. £5 bought you only 3 of these little wonders though. We had the steak burgers for mains and while the meat was clearly of a good quality, there had been little effort spent on the rest of it. The buns were normal buns, the extras provided were tomatos, a gherkin and some other generic salad items. Fine, nothing wrong with that combination but with such beautiful meat, and at £17, you expected more. Go see the well-known BBQ place just off Carnaby street to understand what more can be done. The Czech Hobo beer was distinctly average and again, at £5 for a 330ml can. overpriced. Overall, the food was great, service average and it’s worth being mindful of your location.

Hixter is one of those places I didn’t think I’d like. They do chicken which is nothing to write home about and whilst the food isn’t spectacular it’s up there as one of those businesses that isn’t particularly adventurous but is run efficiently and with a class above the rest. Dining at Hixter is like dining at Hawksmoor. The service is just a step above and that has nothing to do with who you are or status as with some other businesses that shall remain un-named. Staff are friendly, do their rounds in a pleasant manner that doesn’t seem intrusive and are happy to chat whilst also re-filling your glasses with water and knowing exactly when your jug needs a refill. Seriously that’s already so much better than 90% of food businesses. Anyway the food itself like mentioned is nothing amazing, but it’s tasty and a whole chicken, the perfect comfort food. Additionally the rotisserie chicken juices drip onto the large serving of fries that come with the dish and just up the game. Sadly the other dishes we tried, a chicken curry and chicken salad, were not close to satisfying. If you come here you want the whole chicken. Onto dessert, the salted caramel fondue was lovely, the doughnuts amazing, but utterly overpriced at £15. All the desserts are actually overpriced in the sense you can get much higher quality in even fancier restaurants for cheaper, but I must say that takes nothing away from the wonderful apple pie with custard. So in all, the menu is simple. Stick to the simple items e.g. chicken, beef, steak, and you probably won’t regret your choice.

If you can find this place it is fairly worth it. I had lunch here. It’s in a lovely courtyard and it’s surrounded by an outdoor food arcade in the warm months. This is clearly the best local option if you do not want to put your plate on your lap. The greeters are very friendly. You can buy some His cookbooks that are attractively displayed. My lunch was simple — an Indian Curry Chicken dish that is served with Rice. I substituted ‘chips’. It was delicious if not particularly spicy. I aslo ordered the Heirloom and Lovage salad on the side. That was also quite delectable. This place appears to specialize in Beef, steaks specifically. I didn’t have that but they looked decent. Thumbs up for a London lunch spot.
