Gypsy Crème. Is there any graceful way to eat it? No. You’re gonna crunch into it, and some of it will crumble down the front of your chin(possibly down into your cleavage, aka nature’s woman bib). The satiny coffee crème center will goosh out over your fingers and lips, and then some of those aforementioned crumbles of buttery biscuit goodness will stick to it giving you a lickable hipster mustache even the most aloof of Hoxtonite elite could respect. And you will like it. Oh yes you will. (In short, come here for breakfast, lunch, tea, or cake… you won’t regret it. My soup was plentiful and really tasty, the owner was a doll, and the cakes were to die for).

I tried very hard, and in the end, I managed to resist saying«You made it for ME?» when my coffee was served. Even though it was a stroke of pure, unbridled wit. IMIFY is an absolutely perfect place for a Saturday/Sunday morning — the setting can only be described as cute, and the serving area looks like somebody’s kitchen(kitchenware stacked everywhere, dishwasher…). There’s not a whole lot of seating, but it’s just so cosy. The menu seems fairly standard for a coffee shop, offering a range of specialty teas(from Postcard Teas), coffee(sourced from Allpress), cakes, sandwiches, and soup/stew of the day which are all made on-site. My americano was perfect — whilst the coffee blend isn’t quite as good as the one at Franze and Evans, it’s still better than most out there. As for the food, well, that’s where it gets good. My nutritious breakfast(Chocolate Guinness Cake) was so, so good: moist, light, yummy frosting. My fellow breakfaster had the beetroot soup — it’s a dish that I’m slightly biased against because it seems so… meh, but I this one tasted great, in part due to the lacing of cumin. The accompanying soda bread is awesome — they also sell them by the loaf — turning out to be nice and fluffy. The star of the show, however, was the gypsy cream. I mean… it’s the equivalent of a Frankenstein macaroon — two chunky, chocolaty, oaty biscuits sandwiching a smooth coffee cream filling. ZOMGSOMUCHNOM. Sure, there is the small problem of the cream squeezing out when you bite into it, but the oozing is symbolic of its awesomeness(or something). They’re an absolute must-try. A 2 quid for a coffee/3 pounds for a cake, IMIFY is pretty fairly priced, and to top it off the service was absolutely lovely. Yeah, I kind of want to keep this place under wraps so that I always have a table to go to, but this place is really special. A++.

Another gem of a coffee house that’s sprouted in Hoxton. I Made It for You serves some pretty wholesome pies, gienormous croissants and pain au chocolats, and these beautiful, artisan crafted sandwiches, chocolate guiness cake, and so on and so forth. Mean coffee, my mocha was good. The gin and juniper cake looks wicked. I love the free book swap, it adds to the charm and atmosphere of the place. The only snafu I’d say was that when I ordered my sandwich, it didn’t come with a salad(which the menu says that it does)… but I wasn’t told until after I got it and inquired about the salad. Easy mistake, but so easy to manage from a customer experience perspective. Apart from that, I love this place, and I will definitely be coming back.

Incredibly cozy surroundings, friendly and genuine staff, and the freshest british cakes, pies, soups. Both traditional and simultaneously innovative. Great tea selection and Tom makes a mean americano, much better coffee than near by shoreditch grind! Recommend the Guinness chocolate cake, gypsy creams, and bourbon biscuits!
