Not sure exactly what to say about this place. Coming inside, it took a few seconds to conclude the staff was Chinese, not Japanese. Nevertheless, they were quite helpful and friendly. They made me a perfectly cooked mackrel(Saba shioyaki), but the rice wasn’t properly cooked and the green tea was poor in taste. I think its a fairly decent place for a simple lunch, but I have hard to make any further recommendation. Also, the fact that they charge me for the green tea means it isn’t worth more than two stars.

I was in need of healthy sustenance and sushi was on my radar. Wanting to try somewhere new, I wandered into the quaint and nicely decorated restaurant Ikura. Having no wish to eat in, I asked for a menu and left. The prices were cheaper than my other local sushi house so I decided to splash a little on a sashimi sampler, a plethora of sushi rolls and the ever present edamame. I can happily report, I did not have a single complaint, the edamame was perfectly salted and the spicy tuna rolls were sensational. The rest of the sushi was good, not phenomenal just a solid good. Personally I wouldn’t choose to eat in the restaurant as I felt it lacked a little atmosphere, but I’d certainly be willing to order another takeaway again. This is a solid three star restaurant, solely on the basis of the food.

I was recently forced to dine alone because I was locked out of my house due to dumbassness on my part(dining alone is fine with me, if I have some reading material on hand at least…). The first thing I noticed was the fact that I was the only person in the restaurant upon arrival… and it was about 7pm on a Thursday night. Tears for Ikura. Another thing I overheard was the blatant mandarin being spoken in the background, which always renders me skeptical about a Japanese restaurant. Fortunately, the food was delicious and fresh. Lovely pickled bean-sprouts were served before the meal and I hoovered them up within a few seconds. I then had the gyoza and Ton Katsu with rice, both were excellently flavored and served in a reasonable amount of time(not TOO suspiciously fast…). I would definitely come to this local again, and as the previous reviewer mentioned, there is a fast delivery service. Hopefully next time I won’t be locked out of my flat on a rainy day to enjoy some cheap Japanese food!

Great food and service. I’ve only ordered take away, but it’s been great 5 out of 5 times. I recommend the vegetarian tempura roll with sweet potato. Really pleasant staff too.

I recently took my mum to Ikura for a meal as it looked quiet and reasonably priced. The food was very good and the waiters were extremely helpful at explaining the extensive sushi and izakaya menu to us. I got the salmon terriyaki and she got the sashimi, both of which were delicious, and we shared some enourmous fried prawns. We both fought over the green tea ice cream for dessert. The only thing I didn’t like about the restaurant was just how terrifyingly quiet the place is. When the restaurant started to fill up over the course of the meal, we were both very aware of the fact that we could hear, and were being listened to, all of the customers on the other tables. I wanted to suggest that maybe there should be some light background music, but didn’t as, well, everybody in the restaurant could hear. They also do an excellent home delivery service(which is free)
